We dive into the bizarre world of Don't Panic (1988), a Mexican cult horror movie directed by Rubén Galindo Jr. Joined by returning guest Sam, we discuss a demonic Ouija board, ridiculous English dubbing, questionable special effects, bizarre character choices, and some of the funniest scenes we've encountered in a horror movie. Is Don't Panic an overlooked horror classic or a spectacularly bad movie that's so bad it's good? We're breaking down the chaos, sharing plenty of laughs, and recommending other horror movies worth watching this spooky season.
What happens when a Ouija board unleashes a demon, a teenager starts experiencing terrifying premonitions, and a low-budget horror movie goes completely off the rails? We find out in our discussion of Don't Panic (1988), the obscure Mexican supernatural horror film directed by Rubén Galindo Jr.
This episode of The Never Seen It Podcast welcomes back our old friend Sam, reuniting with the crew for a spooky-season movie discussion packed with outrageous moments, questionable filmmaking choices, and plenty of laughs. Justin, aka GhostNerd88, picked this obscure horror gem and makes the case for why it deserves a place in the so-bad-it's-good hall of fame.
We start with the movie's supernatural premise: Michael's 17th birthday party takes a terrifying turn when a Ouija board unleashes the demon Virgil. Soon, violent nightmares, strange premonitions, and a series of murders send the story spiraling into increasingly bizarre territory.
From there, we dig into everything that makes Don't Panic such a memorable viewing experience. We discuss the hilariously awkward English dub, strange sound effects, questionable acting, confusing plot points, and a villain who looks like he wandered into the wrong horror franchise. We also examine Michael's unforgettable dinosaur pajamas, his questionable decisions, and the movie's unusual approach to supernatural visions and demonic possession.
But it's not all bad news for this obscure 1980s horror movie. We give credit where it's due, particularly for the surprisingly effective television special effect and a memorable dagger kill. We also discuss the film's Freddy Krueger influences, its potential for a modern remake, and whether its central concept could work with better writing and contemporary horror filmmaking techniques.
We also take a detour into other horror favorites, discussing Ouija board movies and supernatural horror recommendations, including Talk to Me and Ouija: Origin of Evil. Along the way, we share our personal horror favorites, debate what makes a cult classic, and explore why a movie can be technically terrible yet still deliver an incredibly entertaining experience.
Does Don't Panic deserve its cult horror status? Should Hollywood revisit its premise? And how many bizarre dubbing choices, questionable performances, and inexplicable scenes can one movie deliver before it becomes essential viewing for fans of bad horror movies?
We share our final thoughts, compare our reactions, and explain why this strange 1988 horror film gave us so much to talk about. If you love obscure horror movies, cult cinema, cheesy supernatural thrillers, and hilarious movie reviews, this episode is for you.
In this episode, we discuss:

The prodigal son returns to the
show with us, Mr. Sambout, who used to do sketches
with us in the old Chuckle Huds and the Poor Decisions podcast,
which we've mentioned on this show several times throughout the year.
Sam
Welcome back, my friend.
Glad to be here.
Thanks, guys.
Finally.
All right, yeah.
We're glad to have you back.
Who knows?
Maybe this will become a thing, you know?
It's been a while since we've said..
I don't think we've ever mentioned the actual podcast name, though.
We've never said poor decisions?
I feel like we have.
We always refer to it as a year. the old of the old podcast.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I think you just don't want to have any evidence of like what we did.
You know, you know, it's funny you say that because there is no evidence.
I've literally tried to look it up online and I can't find any kind of arc.
I wonder if it's an archive.net.
That's the one place I haven't checked, but
it doesn't matter.
But, you know, it was fun times.
And, you know, Sam, you know, we did sketches, we did stand-up comedy, we did the podcast.
We did so much back in the day.
And so really is great to have you back on the show with us.
We do appreciate you
for talking with us tonight about the 1988
horror culture, horror Ocure Movie classic Don't Panic
from 1988, directed by Ruben Galindao Jr.
Is it a classic, though?
Well, we'll see right.
It is a classic.
Shut up.
It is a classic.
I've never heard of this movie, but I'm very much happy to have seen it.
Absolutely.
And we'll get into it.
The movie's about on the 17th birthday.
A boy named Michael
has a surprise party thrown by his friends where a
session with an Oigi born accidentally unleashes a demon
named Virgil, who possesses one of them to go on a killing spree.
Michael, now plagued by violent nightmares and premonition, sets out to to try and stop
the killings.
And Justin, you did choose this horror movie.
You say it's a classic.
I want I know what I think, but I want to know what you think.
What makes this an obscure horror classic in your humble opinion?
Well, it's definitely obscure
because none of you have heard of it, correct?
I'm assuming up until this point.
That's correct.
And it's a classic only in the sense that I deemed it a classic because
I actually, funny enough, I
actually kind of just like discovered this movie maybe
like three or 40 years ago.
And every now and again, I'll go back and watch it
because I'm like, man, this shit is so just, I just want a horror movie that that I can just laugh at.
And this was one of those movies
that I can go back to, watch, laugh at, move
on, and not see it for another year or two.
It has been a while since I've seen it.
So maybe like maybe a year or two.
Wow..
So it was just about time to get back to seeing how ridiculous this was.
And fun fact,
I discovered it like a few years back back,
but it premiered on Shudder, which I
thought it was like one of those movies that like, oh, Shudder's never going to get rid of that movie.
They're going to keep that thing on there.
Well, no streaming services really shown it right now except for
Philo, and then they want you to pay $30 to watch this movie.
And I'm like, that's bullshit.
It's on YouTube for free.
Luckily it was on YouTube for free and very low fidelity.
Very low fidelity.
But on Shudder, it was like it was
a 4K remaster.
So this movie actually has a 4K remaster, just letting you know.
If you can find
the DVD.
I think Vinegar Syndrome sells a 4K copy of it.
It's probably Vinegar Syndrome or Arrow.
Yeah, Vinegar Syndrome is actually who sells it.
So, yeah.
So that's kind of like, that's kind of like my story
on how I discover this movie, but I consider it a cult
classic because it's fucking hilarious.
It's spooky season, right?
Yeah.
So we're going to do spooky season or spooky movies for the season
I think this is a good primer for the season.
So yeah, no, thank you for choosing this because I that there's going to be a lot to dissect here.
But Sam is our guest of honor.
I mean, I want to hear from you next.
Yeah, like, what was your perception of this and what are your
just quick rapid fire thoughtss now that you watched it?
The whole entire time that I was watching the movie, I kept thinking to myself, why is it called Don't Panic?
Yeah.
Never Never ones that I realized that
I go, oh, aha, this is why it's called called don't Panic.
Yeah.
And yeah, I definitely did
went throughout watching it on YouTube so that beautiful fidelity
was just streaming out of my phone.
But
yeah, no, it was it
was it was a bit of a bit of a ride on this one.
It did catch me in the first in the
first half, and I was like, okay, I kind of know how this is going to play out.
And then it just got zany and it
just, it hits you with a curveball.
And
and I wasn't expecting to laugh as much as I did for the movie.
But yeah, there there's
some parts that just really had me rolling.
So, yeah, it was it was a fun ride.
Do you have any fries, Sam, on why the main character,
Michael can't seem to run or walk in a straight line?
Because it seems like throughout the entire movie, he's stumbling around side to side.
It's because of his premonitions.
Oh.
So whenever he, well, when the clue
the context clues is whenever his eyes turn red.
So he's seeing these premonitions, but the, but he's blind.
He's blind as a bat.
It's that. worst thing that could possibly happen
to a main character because it's just, he can't even see where he's going.
So he's like stumbling down the stairs and he's like feeling around
the room just to figure out where an elevator is at.
yeah she' I was waiting for him to turn an ankle on the
stairs every time he'd like go blind.
Yeah.
So he turned a heel instead.
Yeah.
Justin, you had something.
Oh, no.
So the original title of this movie was
actually called Dimensiones Cultas
Ooh.tish.
And also also on top of that, um I
don't know if you guys caught it, but they were in like Mexico City versus
school, which I thought was also an interesting thing.
I'm like, what's a bunch of white people?
I mean, I guess Mexico City is kind of gentrified,
but at the same time, I was like, man, there's a bunch of white people that are just in
Mexico City going to school of all things.
That's part for the course.
If you ever watch a Mexican soap opera, everybody's wh except the bad guys
It's very much a colorism thing in
Mexican culture, which is really weird and even weirder
to talk about during Mexican herit or Hisanic Heritage Month.
But you know what?
It is what it is.
But yeah, no, I thought I found that interesting.
I was like, this director,
he was pretty prolific.
He's got 10 movies under his belt.
Have you seen any of any of the other movies this guy has made?
Justin, I feel like you would have, right?
No, actually, I didn't even look into this
director's repertoire of movies, but
he's a a Hispanic director for sure.
And it seems like a lot of his movies surround
like Mexican culture in some shape or form throughout his career.
Yeah.
Which I think is pretty cool Because also on
YouTube, uh, there's there's two different versions.
There was like, there's a high res version of the, of the movie and
then there's that low res on unfortunately, because I don't
speak 100% Spanish just yet.
I had to watch the low res.
but the one that was dubbed in Spanish was super good quality.
Super good quality.
I'm like, man, I wish I watched that version instead,
but I wouldn't be able to really understand what was happening.
I'm wondering how much better the acting was in in the
native Spanish version, because the acting in the English dub is horrible.
It's horrible.
Like, the cadence some of these guys, like, what's
the guy the guy they go take him out of his house when he's like lying on the floor?
He's like, oh, man, come on, man, Lea me alone, man.
Come on.
What are you doing, man?
Like this Roberto?
Well, yeah.
He's just like, come on, man.
And then like the actress that plays the girlfriend,
well, not the girlfriend, but, you know, Alex
she's just like, come on, what are you doing?
I'm like, who does where do they find these boys?
Arnold, uh, I want to hear your off. dub the movie.
I should.
Just my voice?
Me and Arnold will it.
Yeah.
It sounded like they took a lot of the same voices in Kung Fu movies.
Like the women?
It's like, hi.
Oh, no.
My name's Alexis.
I'm from Texas.
Texas?
I don't know.
You're probably right, though, Arnold, that they probably
hired the same people that would dubbed like Kung Fu movies.
Because I was thinking the same thing.
It kind of seemed like the Kung Fu kids, the actress and actresses.
And they probably even had to use like the same. just like two people
and they just kind of like lowered the pitches of their voices to like play different.
I don't think they had more than a couple of people to do the voices because it kind of all blended together.
And then like there was a scene in there that I
swear to God was like straight out of like a Mortal Kombat Street Fighter like S&E has like soundtrack
Oh, yeah.
It's like, does not fit the scene at all.
This guy's waiting for his life screaming and it's
like, Even
the sound effects. the soundtrack right now.
The sound effects was like old school
like what you would hear in like the sound of breaking glass or the sound of running.
It's like it's I don't know how to describe it, but it's got that.
The cheap Foley sound.
Yeah, the Foley was.
Yeah, the Foley. horrible.
What was up with the Foley?
It was just like
weirdly mixed.
Like the sound effects..
Yeah, Mick Foley, Mick Foley, then Mankind, was like doing all the sound effects.
Yeah, is that a wrestler, Arnold?
Yeah, the sound was weird.
I do want to touch on the the most useless detective in the world.
Like that guy's got nothing done.
He goes up to Alex in the park.
He's like, oh, have you seen Michael?
No, I haven't seen him.
Okay, well, let me know.
And he just walks away.
I'm like, did we, was that necessary?
Like, do we really need to see that?
I was, I was actually hoping that it would become like this like
black phone sort of situation, but it never did.
It never did.
So I'm trying to understand one thing.
The Ouija board is what the whole thing, right?
Because they used it in the beginning.
Yes.
Why did it infect just the one guy that became
the killer, basically?
Like, how did that, you know, get into him?
I don't know.
I never, I didn't get that part.
Well, it was because he's the one that it was he
was the one that started the ritual.
Oh, that was the same guy.
Yeah, it was the same guy.
And then then it kind of worked the same way as like Final Destination
Works or maybe vice versa.
Maybe Final Destination was inspired by this movie.
I don't know.
But yeah, it's so it kind of had
Final Destination roles where it's like this guy was like the controller.
So he's like, okay, I'm going to possess this guy first because
he was the one handling the Ouija board modely.
He was the one that brought the Ouija board as well.
and gave it to him.
But yeah.
I will say, I did like I did like the special effects with the TV.
That was very poltergeisty.
I thought that was actually considering, you know, considering
everything, it was pretty well done for like this low budget of a movie.
That's what who the hell was that guy guy?
Definitely one was that guy.
No, I was just saying, like, as far as special effects, like the whole TV situation,
that was the most impressive out of the whole thing.
Yeah.
And there was a lot of scenes where you see kind of first person perspective
where the possessed demon guy
was like like stabbing his victims, but you could clearly
see he's like missing the mark, right?
He's not actually inflicting any wounds, but you
see like blood splanter just exaggerating like all over the place.
yeah, so yeah, to see, it is quite
a a justed position than that because like you see all this
like cringey, like special effects, but then you see the TV thing, you're
like, oh shit, I'm actually watching a movie right now.
Like this yeah.
like this isn't some like person's like video project
or, you know, video production like homework, you know?
I, but I'm I like the
visual effects, but I still don't, I'm not clear who was the guy in the TV.
Like, who was that?
Talking to them?
That was the original the guy that got possessed.
Yeah, rubber. rubo.
Oh.
It was kind of like an obsession situation, you know, like when the girl
she got, like, got the whatever the curse
or whatever it was, and then her soul or whatever just kind
of was outside of that body, but whatever possessed
the girl in obsession was the one I was controlling and speaking and everything.
I
It was kind of like that since so similar situation.
Okay., when they did the Oigija board,
was Roberto trying to reach out to his friend Virgil Or was this a demon named Virgil?
I wasn't clear on that either.
I think there was there was supposed to be like some sort of like context
that like a prequel could have like led to, you know?
Didn't Did they say something about like
they were trying to reach out to like his dead grandparents or something like that?
Well, yeah, the one's dead grandparents.
It was that, but I think it was like something like completely different.
I think the Virgil thing, because remember he says in the very beginning of the movie,
he's like, not again, Ouija pars or something like that, you know?
Like, like, he's like done this before and this is all had happened
before.
He'so's bringing out the Oui board.
Justin, as our resident horror
fan, though, can you recommend to us a different
movie that's messed around with Wuiuija board?
that you'd say, no, that's a solid horror movie?
Any that come to mind at all?
That's messed around with the Ouija board?
Yeah, like any horror movies where the Ouija board is like the precipice for the movie.
Hear me out.
Hear me out, Hear me out.
Besides the movie, Ouija, Oija?
Is that what they say?
I don't know.
I don't know.
Oija?
Actually, Ouija 2 is actually a better movie
with the use of a Ouija board than the first Ouija movie.
Oh, really?
Yeah.
But as far as like Ouija board it goes, I'm going to say talk to me.
That's not a, it's not a Ouija board per se, but
they do similar things, you know, Is that the ceremonies?
Yeah, with the hand where they like hold on the hand and then they like,
uh, talk to the dead and stuff like that.
I think they, I think that movie does it the best.
If you to get rid of that hand and just make it a board,
it would have been a similar situation.
So I think I think talk to me does it really well.
I watched the trailer for that the other night.
I might want to check that out because that looks interesting.
So think if you guys ever played with the Oui board.
I's another YouTuber directed movie and it's fantastic, honestly.
Oh, nice.
The same director says,
bring her back or whatever.
But I think Talk to me is a lot better than Bring Her.
Gotcha.
I'll have to check it out.
Arnold, I have never played with the Ouija board.
Have you?
We created one on a piece of paper, but it didn't quite work.
Oh, damn.
What What did you ask it or what did you tell it?
Exactly?
I don't know.
We were kids and then, you know, I think we were like pretending like we didn't move it around
but then we tried to spell out something with our eyes closed, but it didn't quite work.
So.
Was Alex there for this?
No, I I think we're like a little teenage little boys.
And then On speed.
No, we we hadn't gotten to drugs yet..
But we're actually clean and
trying to holla at some girls.
Ilike the lead character.
He loves speed.
Yeah.
Yes, yes.
It was around the time of the movie.
Speed.ere you talking about Keanu Reed.
No, I'm talking about the main character because he loves speed.
The more you get of it, the more you want.
That's what he said in the movie
He does say that, does it't he?
That does happen.
Wait, but not to get off topic.
Off topic, yes.
I would forgive the speed, the use of drugs.
I won't forgive is that perm, that fucking perm that Michael has.
My God..
What the hell was that?
Some of your kids these days have
have that hair these days.
So it's kind of like a rob't How dare you disrespect metaph?
Yeah, let me just show the audience.
There it is.
Look at that beautiful mane.
Look at that hair.
Look at that mane.
Look at that scrubbing pad.
And then I want to talk about Alex's haircut.
Where is she?
Here she is.
But not only that, and you can't really see it as She looks a poodle.
She has the unibrow going on.
I don't know, guys.
I don't know.
I think she's pretty.
I don't know.
I think she is.
I don't know.
She's cute, but that Unibrow is not doing her justice.
You know what I'm saying?
No, I think she's.
She's not between her eyes?
I don't care.
I'm a Unibrow supporter.
I'll just say that.
I'm all for the Unibrow here.
There we go.
Yeah.
All right.
Well, that's fair.
But yeah, so this movie, I mean,
this movie is something else.
We We watched some pretty interesting movies on this show.
Law Nor Man, Lageddon, and now Don't Panic.
This is probably the worst of the three for me, personally, but I did have a laugh.
It not the worst for you, Alex?
What's the worst for you that we've done?
No, I actually really enjoyed this.
It gave me..
I still hates llo, man, man.
Would you watch this more than My ranking is
this movie is number one.
Okay.
Lawnmower Man, and then Latedon.
Sam, have you seen Lagageddon?
Have you heard of it?
No, actually, I have not.
You know what?
If you watch it, that's like the kind of movie that we probably would have made during the Chucklehead days.
I feel like the cheesy, terrible acting is exactly
a par for the course for what we would have done.
But I actually recommend it.
You should check out the episodes.
It's pretty fun, too.
I on my bucket list.
Putting your This really does have some funny moments that I did want to share
I clipped a couple clips, if you'll indulge me for a second.
This is from the hospital.
When Michael goes to the hospital because he envisions one of the
nurses, is going to die next.
By the way, how did he know the nurse?
Was that somebody like random or did he actually know her?
I wasn't clear on that either.
Do we know one of the sisters?
Yeah.
Oh, okay.
Because of that.
Because of that.
Okay, Gotcha.
Thank you.
So, yeah, here's a quick clip.
What's going on?
That's?
I don't know.
What's going on?
I don't Wor security card ever.
I love that I love Michael's PJs, man.
It's like something that's like a little kid would wear.
He's like he never stopped wearing them since he was like five years old.
dinosaur PJs.
And you notice that he he kind of wears those pajamas
at a certain point for the rest of the movie, too.
It's pretty hilarious.
I was thinking about like maybe like one of these years getting
trying to find that set of pajamas and wearing that for like Halloween or something.
Dude, you know what we should do is we should just
reprint those those uh, do a repro of those shirts
and then sell them.
Oh, yeah.
That'd That'd be great.
With the merch. and then have like a little, never
seen it logo on it, you know?
Obviously, like with that clip, I laughed
harder with the security I going, I don't know.
I don't know.
Yeah.
And then he goes to investigate and he like only runs a few feet away and then he's on the radio.
Hey, come over here.
Oh, okay.
And then he's like, bro, he's right there.
Like, you didn't even go to the.
I told that someone was going to be murdered and he
Yeah.
I don't know what's going on.
I'm main character here.
I love the other.
I want to play another clip.
This is also a good one.
Here, I'll just, I want't even give context.
Just let's watch this really quick.
You don't think we're going to get copyright strike?
Do you think?
Oh, no, these are, who's going to copyright strike from this movie?
Come on.
It's classic.
Arnold, I'm a copyright dead ass.
Yeah.
I'm not coming.
Just go.
What do you mean, go?
What about you?
Go, Go!
I can't go without you!
Go!
Alex.
I love you.
She wanted him to come wanted him to come so bad.
I love you.
I love you.
I love you.
That's my second favorite moment of this film.
Just Just the reaction, like just
the anger that's coming out out of Michael, and then like literally not even even a step.
Like just a second later, he's just like,
but I love you.
And he's just like, I' tortured for this poor girl.
Like, you're yelling at her.
Like, that's abusive.
I love that he goes to her parents' house
to rescue her and then they're at dinner and her dad
is just, her dad with that crazy mustache, she's like all prim and proper.
He's like, what's who is this man?
What are you doing in our house?
And gun.
And he starts shooting.
Oh, Stop it!
Stop!
He's playing a colonizer.
That's what he's doing.
Oh, is that what it was?
Yeah, that's right.
Because it's in Mexico.
Yeah.
I love how casually he just starts shooting and
everyone's like, ah, stop, Michael, Stop!
Alex, you got something..
Yeah, I think there's
one low-key, like, really great scene that we
probably haven't talked about, or we might skip over is..
The scene.. where Michael is running late to school and he's riding his bike.
And then he gets to the crossing where the security guard is.
And then he's like, he's like, do you have a note?
Do you have a pass?
And he's all like, no, but I got these porno mags.
And he's like, you want these?
He's like, like, and then I was like back in the day when like porno mags
was like or like currency, you know?
He's like's like here.
He's like, oh, yeah.
And then he goes, and then he like, they let him in.
But then he's like, wait, I can't get into class because I' I'm late.
He's like, why did you even try?
You wasted your your currency on this like dumb old man.
And then like he skips school to go have
lunch, a breakfast with that girl or whatever.
Did you guys say that?
Which sign?
Which sign?
There's like a paper sign that was handwritten and
says, if you are late to class at terms for expulsion or something like that.
Unless you have porno mags.
Unless you have porno mags.
Yeah, that was hilarious.
You know what?
Going back to the dinner scene, there was a subplot, I feel like, in this movie that either got kind of.
Like
so Alex says or Alex's father is having this dinner, right?
And there's the senator that's
in the that's in the scene too.
And, you know, they're just having this casual dinner.
They're not, they don't even really discuss anything of like business or whatnot
And I just love that like everyone's dubbed, but when it goes to the center, he's like, oh, yeah, see.
Yeah.
I missed that.
They didn't bother to dub him at all.
He's like, oh, yeah, okay.
See me.
were they even in house, by the way?
Because that looked like a hotel lobby to me.
That didn't look like a house, wherever they filmed that.
We have to have a hotel lobby for it.
Oh, is that what it was?
Okay.
Yeah, I think.
That's what I'm trying to do.
I want to talk about the mom. his mom, Michael's mom
who is incredibly annoying, but like, there's a
scene on where. don't jump.
Yeah, she's telling.
You come back in here right now.
What was the thing that she was she just randomly says to the doctor?
She's like, oh, I got to tell you something.
I have a drinking problem.
I love.
I love you brought brought that up because I thought the same thing.
Like it's a very serious moment.
They're talking about how, you know, her son is having like, you know, a psychosis of some kind.
And she's like, I have a drinking problem.
It just ends scene right there and it just moves on to the next thing.
It's like, okay, let's make this scene about me.
Yeah.
Yeah, that's that's a great one.
And then there's there's there's something that's later on,
she's arguing with, presumably her husband or ex-husband or whoever he is.
And he's like, you have a tricky problem.
Look at this.
And he like puts the bottle back and he's like, okay, like,
Why are we talking about this?
What is this?
One bottle of vodka and makes you an alcoholic.
Yeah, it sets it back down on the upstairs rail.
And then he pours himself a glass.
Oh, yeah, yeah, I
Yeah.
What a movie.
What a movie, does Justin.
And I want to talk about iconic
character designs, because we've seen, you know, Michael Myers,
Freddy, you know, Freddy Cougar, Jason, you know, Le Leatherface,
all kinds of classic horror villain designs.
I want to talk about the horror villain, the villain in this movie.
I mean, what do we think about this
I mean..
It looks like he's got a gap in his tooth.
That's fire thoughts.
He looks like a sitcom like little character.
Look, look, I'm going to give him credit.
You know, I think the makeup was pretty good.
I think they were going too hard on trying to make
a Freddie Krueger, almost.
Yeah.
You could kind of see the Freddy Krueger like inspiration in this movie as well.
I think.
I think the one thing that sets this guy apart from Freddy Krueger
is that super badass scene where he's using that
dagger and he fucking stabs that guy through like the bottom of his chestin.
Oh, yeah.
I thought that was impressive.
I was like, oh, that was good.
Yeah.
That was pretty good effects.
That's crazy.
I was like, damn.
There's like two good effects in this whole movie.
The TV and that dagger scene.
Yeah.
That dagger definitely was not dull because like he just,
there's that one scene where he, that Roberto dude is sitting in the car and
he barely like touches his neck and it sides to bing.
So it's definitely a really sharp knife, so
a really sharp knife or a really good little thing with blood fake blood coming out.
Yeah, you know what I mean?
HLP says, looks like Larry Bird meets Freddie Kruger.
Yeah.
He kind of reminds me of that guy from a drawing P.
So does that kid, his name is Boner.
Do you remember that guy?
I don't.
Boner?
Yeah, there was a guy named in that TV show,
Growing Pains, and there's this kid who was like a next-door neighbor friend and his name is Boner.
He kind of reminds me of that guy.
He's the character.
What like, Kurt Cameron?
Or am I thinking about somebody?
No, well, it was Kurt Cameron's friend, and his friend was named Boner.
Oh
What an unfortunate name to have in the 80s.
A very unfortunate name to have in the 80s.
They used different verbiage back then.
Yeah.
I mean, like, if, you know, people are.
They just call them erection back then, Arnold.
You know what I mean?
No, I think they said hard ons..
That's what the chat is.
That's what the Chad is saying..
Sam, yeah.
Arnold has a separate, private chat, exclusive to him only.
And he gets the most cryptic messages in that
chat from Die Hard fans, right, Arnold?
It's a lot of people from the dark web Yeah, subscribers.
They're all subscribers.
Are these all friends you've made along the way?
Yeah.
These dealers in there.
Yeah.
Yeah, well, a little bit, I guess you can say.
Sam, do you like horror movies?
I mean, let's get into this a little bit.
Like, what's your What's on your Mount Everest of horror movies have you had to pick?
Just like right off the bat, I would definitely say like It, the Thing
Puppet Masters, really, that's one of my big time favorite ones.
I don't, I don't.
So, when I was younger, I definitely would seek out a lot of horror movies.
You know, having kids, it's kind of not really a possibility anymore
is, you know, I don't want to, you know, cause any trauma for them.
But, yeah, no, I mean, I just recently saw like an obsession.
That was great.
I saw the back rooms, which was pretty fun.
Which one did you like more?
Obsession back rooms?
Yeah.
Well, definitely definitely Obsession.
As far as like a more technically
like well-executed film, definitely obsessed.
But just for the lulls of it, the back rooms was pretty fun.
If you ever get a chance, check out Exit 8.
I heard about that one.
It's pretty good.
Yeah, I'm a little behind on my horror
but every once in a while, I'll kind of, you know, peek inside
and catch a movie here and there.
Arnold's always behind his horror.
Yeah.
He loves horror.
I'm behind on horror movies, but I'm a little upset on horror horror movies.
Yeah.
Arnold, what's your favorite horror movie
spooky season?
Let's So there's before Christmas..
H-O-R-R-O-R, Arnold.
Yeah.
Get that straight.
Just make sure.
Horror.
Horror.
No, no, no.
H-O-R-R horror.
Who are?
Who..
W.
Not WH.
There's Nightmare Before Christmas.
That's a good one.
Not really a wh.
It's scari to him.
It's scary to him.
So, wait, so wait, what's your level of like,
you know, I don't know, tolerance for horror movies then?
Like, is it is it like on a low scale where it's like.
Well, well, you just mentioned like Nightm Bore Christmas or like, are we more on the gruesome level?
That's pretty gruesome, that one.
No.
A classic to me is like, like Halloween.
That style.
That's kind of like what I grew up with.
Yeah.
I watched a lot of those ones.
But then, I don't know.
I haven't really kept up too much, especially
since my wife, she doesn't really like horror.
But so I don't really end up watching that too much, but
the girls do.
The kids like it.
Butld, it would scare you more if you saw him coming?
Michael Myers or this guy?
I mean, what do you think?
Oh, Michael Myers.
This guy looks friendly.
He looks like he wants like, hey, you want to go to barbecue?
Let's go cook something up.
I don't know.
Maybe we'll we will not have so much candy.
See, what happens if you have too much candy, I lost in my middle tooth.
You're got to stop pulling that picture up out of nowhere, man.
Mix me giggle every time.
Yeah.
But now, actually, Sam, I'm
just remembering, like, you know, you've done VFX stuff, you've done three modeling.
How do you think they achieved that TV effect?
I'm actually curious to know your thoughts on that.
Well, it's definitely it's definitely some type of elastic
screen that they have a face that's pushing through
They either have like some kind of projection that's projecting the static onto that.
I mean, there's a lot of ways you could do it practically.
I would assume the most cost-effective way is probably just that.
And they probably had maybe like some kind of
illuminating light in the back so they can
kind of give off the shadow of the guy's face while he's pushing through.
It looked really good.
I was surpris.
It was fantastic.
Interesting.
But yeah.
Any other fun facts.
They use $100,000 for a CGI.
You just don't want C.
That's they add $100,000 back then.
I mean, they got the money there.
They did that trick, like at least three times in the movie.
So
They got their money.
Yeah.
We have to milk it for all it's worth.
All it's worth.
This was voted best of the worst on Red Letter
Yeah.
Media's Halloween spectacular 2021.
Do you guys follow Red Letter Media?
Do you guys know who they are?
Anybody?
I'm not familiar.
They're movie, you know, nerds like us,
they discuss movies and a very like casual sort of way.
They got a big following.
And they, they do like a big rundown of like lots of movies and shows.
So, they're on YouTube.
They're pretty good.
So
And then I was also reading John Michael Bishoff
purchased the dinosaur pajamas himself to represent his character's inner childness.
Okay, okay, went a little bit. method with it, I can respect that.
I can respect that.
I see.
Some HHS covers credited at Duardo Palamo
as the star of this film, but he never acted
in demoniones Oultas.
I don't know what that means.
I don't know what why they wouldn't include that if he wasn't even in the damn thing.
You know what I found funny?
I just thought of it right now.
How like he
he was in his room and then he's like, oh, like he starts like ripping the posters off the wall, like
making it look like he's destroying the rooms, but then he's just like
ripping the posters and then the mom comes in and she
looks at the room like, like, like it there's nothing really destroyed.
It's just like posters.
It's like paper.
The hamper is thrown.
It's not like that's destroyed.
He was on speed.
Michael, what did you give?
How are we going to fix this?
I remember nice when I come home and I'd see your room like that.
Arnold would be like, what the are you doing?
Oh, what are you doing?
How the heck you rip those porn mags?
Arnold, you know it was
JCPney magazine back in the day, you know?
Right?
Yeah.
Macy's summer edition.
Victoria's Secret.
Victoria's Secret, yeah.
I mean,
we were talking about it earlier, but like,
you guys were making fun of the fact that it was like, it was speed.
Do you think the poster posters
and just him loving cars and him even being like, oh
yeah, once you go that fast, you just can never get enough of it?
Do you think that's a metaphor for speed?
Like for real?
Yes
Could be.
But I don't know the guy.
I feel like the guy wasn't well-developed enough for me to even notice that aspectpect of his character.
You know what I'm saying?
Would you guys also believe that Michael was supposed to support portray a 17-year-old?
I thought they were in college.
Oh, yeah.
They're supposed to be.
Yeah, I thought they were in college.
Yeah, I thought they were in college, too.
The way that they.
The way they said.
Because at the very beginning of the movie, they're all like drunk.
And it was like, oh, they're all in college.
He's like,
they're all in Daniel. is the drinking age in Mexico.
I didn't know that.. 18 is the drinking age?
But weren't they 17?
Uh-huh.
Didn't he just turn 17?
That's the thing.
Yeah, right.
So it's so legal, but I'm just saying, it wouldn't
have been that hard to get access to alcohol.
Well, especially because when the mom was an alcoholic.
That's true, too, yeah.
Yeah.
They just dipped into her sten.
Yeah, I feel like, she was a pretty okay okay mom.
Like, she actually cared about her where her her kid was doing.
Yeah, she had a drinking problem, but she was always checking up on Michael.
She seemed like an alcoholic girl, you know?
She seems like like a caring mom, you know?
Like a caring mom that had a couple shots of vodka here and there, maybe not.
She was also okay with her son being drugged by this random doctor with a needle.
So I don't know.
I kind of a little bit.
How random, though?
Are they friends?
Because he seemed like she had him on speed dial seemed like.
Yeah, he just showed up.
It was that whole scene.
I was like, oh, now.
It's like, hey, here, buddy, take this take this needle.
So this again.
Come on.
Yeah..
Doctors still made house calls.
You know what I'm saying?
I want to talk about the other guy.
There's a scene where Michael goes to school and then the cafeteria,
he sees Alex with talking to this other dude and he gets jealous because he's got the rose.
He's ready to give her the rose. and then he walks away
and then she goes up and meets with him and she's like, no, but I love you.
And then they kiss.
And then not long after that, they're back at someone's house.
I think it's his house.
And they start like slowly like
edging towards each other.
Like they're going to make out and it's like supposed to be this like romantic thing.
But it's like we already saw you make out.
Like, well, what are we doing here with this moment?
And then that guy, is that the same guy that comes back later on?
And he's like, what are you trying to do with my sister or whatever?
And like, or is that a different guy?
Because I thought that was the same guy.
No, it was a different guy.
It was a different guy.
Okay.
There was no incest.
Like I thought there was.
I wasn't going to put it past this movie to have incest.
Okay..
That's why I was wondering.
What is that shape of the design department that like you barely
differentiate between each of the characters in the movie
Right.
Except for Michael.
Like he was the one standout, but like, everyone else was like,
they looked almost identical to each other.
Well, Tony had that very, like visually like,
like villainous look to him.
At the very beginning of the movie when he was using
the Oija board and he was just laughing uncontrollably.
I was like, I was like, this guy's obviously going to be the bad guy Or he's going to be the first one to die.
Yeah, pretty well.
So yeah, he definitely had that like sort of unique look because you could look at
his face, he looked like kind of like somebody that could play the Joker, you know?
Pull the picture.
That's the guy with the shotgun, right?
No, no, no.
The guy that..
That's.
No, no, the shotgun.
Tony?
No, no, Tony was the one.
Because Tony
is the one that plays the Guess of the demon.
He has like, if you look at his face, he looks very..
Oh, right, right.
Okay.
That's what Tony the Demon.
Yeah.
Tony.
Can I say, I love your guys' chat.
At healing laughter power is mentioning the sex scene.
They showed his back more than the girls
So I guess they really, you know, wanted to male physique in this film, you know.
I wasn't.
I wasn't a scene.
I will give them credit for like having the girl on top of the guy.
You know what I mean?
Because usually in like, like sex scenes, you'll
see like the guy on top of the girl.
But the girl. on top of him like for most of the time just
making it's like, ah, give me your Give it to me.
Give me your lips.
Give me your.
Give me them lips.
Seriously, though, that's some wildass work.
Like, she's literally hustling this guy. and then, like,
all of a sudden, like, she's in Michael's room and he's
like, about to give her this rose and they somehow then start, like, you know, getting busy.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Well, because she's like, no, it's not like that.
He's just a friend.
He's jealous.
That's what she says.
Yeah, she's like, yeah, yeah, but who the fuck is he?
Like, come here.
Who the fuck is that guy?
Why is he up on you like that?
And then Didn't she say starts just a friend that knows it?
Yeah, she said it was she's just a friend. and that was it.
And she's like, he's probably just jealous.
But it's like you were all up on him until Michael saw you.
And then you're like, oh, maybe I should be, don't worry about him.
I was just about to make out with him.
No deal
Don't worry about him.
That was my stepbrother.
I mean.
Yeah.
In that scene, was he kind of like gnawing on her shoulder or something?
Or am I thinking he's more of the movie?
Hmm.
You might be thinking of another movie.
That's how somebody in the chat brought up.
Arnold, what did your chat say about the roses?
What at the roses represent?
They said the rose really smell like poo, ooh, ooh, ooh.
Oh, I think they were making reference to the song.
Not the song by seal.
The roses?
I don't know, I don't know.
There's something there.
There's there's some symbolism there that we're missing, Arnold.
How would you feel Arnold if you were given a rose?
Put yourself in her shoes.
Yeah.
A rose specifically that doesn't wither as long as that person loves you.
I was just thinking that did he send somebody like some roses or something?
Does Does that mean like you going to die?
I don't know.
I don't know anything about Diddy.
He said that, and he said, that means he's going to give you a bunch of baby oil.
Yeah, exactly.
Free baby oil for life is going to get slippery. baby oil.
That was the significance of it, right?
Like at the very end when she throws
the rose, it was already withered.
Oh, my God.
But then when it in to the grave, it's like alive, right?
I've been waiting to talk about that part because that's going to be on fucking ridiculous.
Like, it's like this, you know, he's dead
and, you know, spoil alert for everybody, but she
throws the rose and it blooms.
And I swear to God, like, it looked like she
was like in mid orgasm because because she's looking up to the sky
and it's all like beaming lights and she's just
like, oh, Michael, Michael.
The music swells in that mind.
Yeah, the music.
Yeah.
it climimaxes to that point.
And then, and then guess what, folks?
That's the end of the movie.
That's it.
That's it.
There you go.
There you go.
Pere Michael had to go home to his home planet.
Yeah.
Sam, do do you see the symbolism in the rose?
I mean, besides the obvious, what do you think?
Is there more to it or am I just overthinking it?
I mean, besides just like the normal, typical
stuff of, like, you know, te love and how it's like,
honestly, like, I'll admit to it.
Like I've said shit like that before.
It's like, oh, you know, until the last petal
you know, follows our level, last forever. and he you know, and I'll
have this plastic, you know, fake rose.
So that way technically it never, you know, dies.
And then, you know what I mean?
So it's like this, you know, romanticism behind it, of course, but like
besides that, like, there was no other through line with the rose, besides just
hey, you're the love interest.
I love you.
Here's this rose.
Like, it didn't do anything besides the weird fucking thing
at the end where it's like all of a sudden, like, were
they like interl like spiritually at that point?
Like, were they were they actually communicating with each other?
yeah, it's it's a big cliffhanger there.
It really threw me off straight on that one.
It feels like a punchline.
That's Yeah, like Yeah, it's just there..
It's it's the, it's like the smoking
gun of like that moment where it's like, oh, okay, cool, there's this rose, right?
And then like nothing happens with the rose at all.
Like it doesn't, the power of love doesn't come and defeat
the demon or, or bring the friends back together or anything like that.
And it's just, all of a sudden you forget about the rose and then you have this rose at the end and
like..
I was half expecting them
to do like, like a Friday the 13th style.
Like he comes out of the casket and grabs a rose or something like that.
Oh, yeah, me too.
Totally.
I. I was expecting that.
Yeah, I was thinking, okay, there's going to be a don't panic part, too.
Yeah, and then they're like, don't panic.
He's still alive or something, I don't know.
Maybe The roses were floatingating
at one point in the beginning of the movie.
Oh, yeah. three of them.
Oh, three of them just one.
Yeah, because the friend from the Ptergeist TV was like, hey, it's me.
I'm trying to pro that's me, it's your friend..
Remember I gave you that rose to give to that girl?
And then he magically made the roses float and
So is or no purpose.
It, no purpose.
So did Tony have powers?
Because like, if he's giving that rose and he's like, I
have this rose that'll last as long as you guys are alive,
like have your love alive, or whatever.
Does he have magic powers?
That's what I'm kind of wondering or if he's like sort of like, He does.
I don't know.s He makes Michael Bru.
At the end there.
it's Virgil doing that, though.
It's not his.
Okay, so Virgil has power to
make him levitate.
So he has some..
So Tony has some connection to the devil, Virgil, or whatever you want to call it.
And that's how he gets magic powers?
Yeah, maybe he's been dabbling in the demonic arts long enough
that he's picked up a few things here or there and is just
using him as like parlor tricks for his friends, I suppose.
I don't know.
He had a spare, like Ouija board just lying around.
Hey, happy birthday.
Yeah, he really, you know why?
He really fucking shoehorned that thing, didn't he?
Yeah.
Like, the party was great.
The party was having a good time, and then this guy comes in and he's like,
hey, let's let's do this thing because I want everyone to do this thing.
Also, Michael has shitty friends.
They're all like making fun of him, laughing at him.
And like, they're just like, they do this surprise, but everybody's just like, I
you dummy.
He's.
It's your surprise birthday party.
I' idiot.
Come on, you're not going to blow out the candles.
I went a woose.
I don't.
He's a beautiful man.
Like He's like, he's's a good guy.
and like, he's just being tortured by these horrible friends of his.
I don't know.
Hispanic.
Hispanic friendships sit different in Mexico, I believe..
His mom knows, too.
His mom comes out concerned like, you okay, Michael?
Cool, yeah.
None of the parents blonde, by the way.
No.
Yeah.
No.
Hold on a.
Oh, yeah.
His dad was graying hair, so he could't have been.
Maybe.
He used to be, maybe.
My head cannon is that he dyed his hair.
That's my head cannon.
My head cannon is he got that
perm at the same time as he bleached his hair.
Yeah.
Yeah. albino.
There's another scene that I wanted to talk about, like at
the third act of the film, where, you know, that's
the big confrontation and and Michael is, you know, fighting off against Virgil.
And, and then, it's funny you, he drops
that, that big mechanical thing on him, right?
Right.
So I'm thinking to myself, like
yeah, your friend's not coming back.
Like, you just fucked up his body.
Like, he is going to be paralyzed for the rest of his life.
And so I had, so going into that moment, like, that's what I was thinking in my head.
And then he turns back to Tony.
He's like, Michael, Mike, it's, it's me.
It's me, Tony, or whatever he says.
And then Michael's like, oh, and he gets closer.
He's like, April fools.
I
don't remember if he said bitch or something, but he's like, ap the holes.
He called her a bitch.
He didn't call her a bitch.
Yeah.
That just threw me for a loop.
Yeah.
And then again, I'm watching this.
By the way, I'm watching this movie in which I do recommend for some people to do this.
I'm watching this thing at 1.5 speed.
It's so.
It's just..
I just do it.
I just highly recommend it.
Just give it a shot, do it that way.
And it's just the funniness factor is just out 11 when you do it.
That's pretty good.
Yeah.
There's no way you could get through this L. 1x speed.
There's just no way.
Anybody remember that' scene where
he he's he's being chased by the car.
Oh, yeah.
And then like the car is obviously going hella fast, right?
But this dude, Michael, is fucking sprinting, outrunning this vehicle dude.
That shit was hilarious.
I was going to bring that up too.
It's a great moment.
Yeah.
Maybe the cars are just slower in Mexico because they drive in kilometers down there.
I don't know.
I don't know.
Uh.
Oh, man.
What a movie.
See, this is good.
This is We need to do more obscure.
What a movie.
So thank you for bringing us to the table, Justin.
We appreciate it.
My pleasure.
Yeah.
It's my pleasure to torture you guys.
Your pleasure is our pleasure always, my friend.
Was there any more that happened towards the end?
I mean, other than
spoilers, Michael dying and haven't actually, I think we
should talk about that too, is as a protagonist not often in
movies, dies and stays dead.
Yeah.
Because he dies and he stays dead even in the grave.
He doesn't burst out of anything and he's just kind of like
you know, we never really got like a shot of like his mom grieving.
Well, I mean, besides the funeral, but like it wasn't
like the the people at the funeral weren't the focus,
but Alexis was or Alex, whatever her name is.
Yeah, Alex's Alexis.
There wasn't a focus on the grieving, but a focus
on Alex throwing the flower and
then the flower re-blooms, which also makes me wonder
like, did she only love him in death or did she,
or, is it, or is it Michael's spirit loving her in?
I think that's what it is.
Yeah.
Well, he still loves her, but it withered, but it withered, though.
The thing is, it did with her
So that means that someone must have not loved the other as.
But now they love each other. relationship then.
She loves that he's dead?
Like, oh my God, I still love him, but he's
he's dead and I love him even more now.
I love the idea of him.
You know what I mean?
Right.
Yeah.
She loved, yeah.
Like she was ready to break up with them after like
just that, like him not wanting to talk to her for like one day.
Like he fucking shit.
She her like parents' house with the gun.
So
H blame her in..
You know notice that they'd stayed in the house for that too?
They all they didn't run out of the house.
They didn't call the cops.
That was like a normal thing, apparently.
Like they just were like, hey, just shooting. shooting.
Yeah, I'm surprised to downloaded.
Literally, Literally blindly shooting before I blindly shooting.
Anyway, Senator, as I was saying, Mr. Senator,
very nonchalantant.
You're right.
That whole shootout scene.
And he just comes in and he just started blasting.
Michael didn't care.
He senses the demon.
He's, I don't care if this bullet goes through
the senator as long as it hits the demon.
Yeah.
Oh, man.
Okay, well, you know what?
What a movie.
Unless there's nothing else, I think we should go around and do
our final thoughts on Don't Panic.
Justin, I'll start with you.
What are your final thoughts on Don't Panic?
Yeah, I'll start with me, eh?
Oh, final thoughts.
What can I say that hasn't been said?
This movie is campy.
It's very, I think Sam used the word earlier, zany.
It's different.
Personally, and this is a hot take,
I think this concept can work today.
I think this concept I think this movie should be remade.
I think it should be remade.
Because I think the concept
is actually a really interesting idea.
It's just this was executed so wrong.
I see, I see where this could go
and I see that this could potentially be something really cool.
I think this movie needs to be remade aAP.
Modern day technology, modern day screenwriting, all that that good stuff.
So I think this movie does have the potential to actually be
a really good horror movie as long as they keep the comedy.
They have to keep the comedy.
Otherwise, it's not going to work.
Whether it was intentional or not.
I think this movie, for me, is a classic.
It was an instant classic.
When I first watched it, I'm like, oh, man, this movie is so fucking weird.
I can't get enough of it.
I watch it from time to time just to get a laugh
So it's not a good movie.
And I acknowledge that it's a terrible fucking movie.
It's awful, but I think it deserves that award so bad, it's good.
Like, or, yeah, it's, it's so bad, it's good.
I think that's where it goes.
Yeah.
Anyway, don't panic.
I mean, I don't want to give it like too low for
a rating because like, it needs to be watched.
If you've never seen it before and you want something fun to watch
to laugh at and you're able to watch it in a higher resolution
I would say go for it.
360P is definitely not where it's at.
I'll just say that if you can watch the
dub version where it's a little bit higher resolution on YouTube, go for it.
Or if you can find the DVD of
it, the forK, you know, buy it.
I think it's worth it.
I think it'll get a lot of enjoyment out of it on a yearly basis at least
So I'm just going to give this film a a two out of five.
St.
I think I would give it more,
but I have to rate it as like a regular ass movie, I guess
I'm just going to give it a two out of five.
And that's that's my final offer.
You can follow me, Ghost Nerd to 88, my art
page, on Instagram, and things. coming in soon.
There will be a website.
And you can also follow my personal page, Shibs
the Zombie, where I do things.
I'm going to start uploading
more videos and photos from my trip to Japan.
And I think we'll be talking about that pretty soon in the podcast.
So, yeah, that's me and I'll see you later.
All right.
Bye.
Sam, as our guest of
honor, what final thoughts do you have on this movie?
Yeah.
I loved the movie.
I really enjoyed it.
Is it a terrible movie?
It's absolutely horrible.
Yes, it is.
Story-wise, I mean, if you, if you're going into this thing
expecting an actual story, it's, I mean, it's bare minimum.
I mean, it's just you have a Ouija board.
A demon possess, possesses a guy, he kills people
They kill the demon.
And then that's kind of, that's kind of the movie right there.
Like to Justin's point,
this film has the foundations of what can be something good
if they modernize it.
Not even just moderning it's just to have an
actual through line, an actual like, you know, a plot
line that goes, you know, that that carries the characters through. like,
you know, dig a little deeper into the personalities of the friends or even just the main character.
Show us like them just shooting the shit and having a good time.
Like, I know they did with the party, but you're still just getting introduced to these characters.
So you don't really have that opportunity to latch on to anybody that you really like besides
Michael pretty much.
But, I mean, again,
keeping that comedy part and that aspect of the movie,
I think is it's crucial, because if that did
not exist for this movie, whoa, man, what a
a frawl to do and watch this movie.
But because of the just the funny factor
of it all and just the hilarious like dubbing and and
and the weird acting that's going on in this movie, like that, to me is just what brings it up.
But, yeah, no, it could use a lot more
weird zany shit.
Like, just, just go for it.
Like, if you're going to commit to it, just commit to it.
You're right. commit to the bit.
Where can people find you, Sam?
Any social media accounts you want to share really quick?
Well, all these kids out here can find me in the streets.
wheeling and dealing.
Catch these hands.
You catch these hands, baby, catch them.
No, I don't really do social media anymore.
That's that's just my thing.
But, you know, you know, that's just what I do.
Well, we appreciate you being on the show.
Hey, do you have a favorite moment from the old show that you still think fondly of?
It could be anything, any.
Oh, you're talking about the poor decisionions podcast?
Yeah, you have like a favorite memory, your favorite moment.
Like, what stands out in your mind?
I'm curious.
Ooh, these friends are
Oh, my God.
I still think about that.
Man, I kid you not?
It's always such a funny thing for me because, like, I'll walk around with
my friends and then, like, I'm quoting shit from that podcast.
It's just, it's just
I'm just doing a bit and it's only for me, but I
fucking love it because it's just, it brings back those memories and it's
just all the, man, we talked about a
lot of crazy shit on that show.
And there's a lot of like quotables from that.
And
yeah, I've tried to like find it.
I don't know if it's scrubbed off the internet at this point. but I've tried to find that.
Yeah..
In all seriousness, I've because that was hosted through a different website.
I've tried to get back into that account.
Can't do it.
As soon as I stop paying for that account, it
just removed the RSS feed entirely.
So it really only lives on a hard drive somewhere
that I have put away in California.
And someday I'll have to find it and dig out those old episodes.
It's like vocal vocal stimp for me, by the way, is what Tim said at one time.
He's like, I can see your vagina hanging out of your underwear.
Like that one.
I'll never forget that one.
I don't even know the context of that.
I don't know if anybody remembers the context.
One thing that I use at my work, because as I'm like making sando
is butter, better, good.
Oh, that was a sketch we did.
Yeah, yeah.
That was a sketch..
Good, yeah.
I I talk about that story about the
five guys, and I, Eric.
Anytime someone like gets fries, I'm like, ooh, these fries is spicy.
I didn't order these.
I mentioned Arrow,
which is a Arrow.
Oh, yeah..
That's.
Yeah.
No, HLPLP's is very anti-.
He's an OG.
Oh, Oh, he's not an arrow.
Arrow. on YouTube.'s can still watch Arrow.
That's still on YouTube.
But if you throw a media at him, it's just not going to be aerodynamic, huh?
Yeah.
Arrow, like dynamic.
Yeah, Arrow like dynamic, yeah.
Well, thank you, Sam.
We appreciate you.
And, hey, you know, you're welcome to be on the show anytime, you know, so don't, don't, don't be a stranger.
Definitely now that I'm set up, I'd be happy
to come back on as long as you guys are good to go.
I'm down to climb
Absolutely, my friend.
Absolutely.
Well, cool.
And Alexa, let's go to you next.
Thank you.
What are your final thoughts on Don't Panic?
This is like one of those movies that's
like perfect for Mystery Science Theater kind of commentary.
I instantly thought about that.
I actually enjoyed this film
I thought it was it's very ridiculous.
It's It's not a good film.
But like I agree with Justin as well.
And I think we've talked about this before that people should be remaking bad movies
and making them better rather than remaking good
movies and then making them bad.
You know?
Too many people do that.
And it it's like, why are you remaking the crow?
You did not need to make the crow.
It was perfect.
And you like ruined it, you know, like ruined it the experience for anybody else.
But I kind of just want to shoot off some little notes that
I had that I kind of wanted to bring up.
Oh, yeah.
Let's see
So this is at the very beginning.
Was Michael's G the girl behind the couch where you know, Alexis popped up?
I was like, they're like, happy birthday.
And she's like, remember this girl from your class?
And I was like, oh, I was like, that's what I thought was that was that his gift?
And then, uh
this was supposed to be a horror movie, not a horror movie.
Yeah, exactly.
Exactly hor.
They go on that breakfast date
and then Michael buys her balloon. and there's like those metallic ones.
And then she just lets them go.
It's like, one, you're being your shitty girlfriend
Like, just like, he bought you something nice and then you're just like, ha ha bye.
And then and then you're also ruining the environment by like
letting like a metallic balloons into the air.
Smilar's not good for the environment.
Let's see.
Yeah, then you had that same reaction too, with the balloons, I was like, that's not good.
Yeah.
It's like, that's way closer to the rainforest too.
The first thing I thought of is, I hope there's no power lines above the..
I was thinking that, too..
And then there's that scene where he's like, he goes up to Tony and he's like,
ah, I like her.
I don't know if she likes me.
He goes like, how do you not know she likes you?
She just kissed you.
What bigger sign do you need?
Let's see.
As young men, be pretty naive to those things, yeah.
Yeah, very true..
I was pretty naive to that stuff.
Yeah.
I mean, we just question everything.
There's a lot of like missing context in this movie.
There's just like, they just you, they
tell you to just fill in the blanks for yourself..
And it's like, so, okay, that's fine.
And this is a stupid movie.
I'll do that.
Sure.
Well, the man, the mom's hot.
That's She's a cutie.
Definitely.
I agree.
Dude, they show that that news scene
where news article where it's like they're talking about the
latest computer and it's this giant computer and like that lady is standing inside the computer.
I was like, that's that's so wild..
That's so wild to me that like this movie
was that old where like, like a computer took up a whole room.
That was a supercomputer.
Yeah.
Fun fact about that.
That's the same one that was used to process stuff in Jurassic Park
So maybe this movie's a little precursor to Jurassic Park.
F. in a way.
Well, like some Van you got that in because that was like such a throwaway thing.
Like this supercomputer.
I thought it was going to be a part of the movie.
That's what I thought, too.
I was like, you're like in those kind of context clues,
it's like, ooh, this thing that's happening it's like, oh, maybe there's some kind of magnetic
field that's like possessing people.
Or, I don't know, just wild.
And then it was just like, that's it.
I thought it was going to turn into the lawnmower man or like a prequel to lawnmower Man or something.
Yeah.
That's what I thought.
And then, there's, okay, so there's that.
There you.
Okay, he's got a king- size bed, but he only has a one pillow.
It's like, that's the stupidest thing to ever.
It's like, he have the ability to roll around.
Like, I know if I look at my bed.
Look at Don't mind.
I have like four
I have like four.
Yeah.
Yeah, maybe.
There you go.
Four of the show.
And then he's late for his 30 minute stretch.
He has to stretch his hips because he's got Satica.
And that's a good technique.
Yeah.
I
And then last one was, it's
like, Marlborough was all over this.
I noticed that.
Oh, yeah.
I wonder if Marble did put like money into this film.
I would assume so.
I would assume so.
Yeah, that't what they should now.
It should become Marvel Canon.
Don't panic.
No, Marvel Marvel Marlborough.
That'te. cigarette brand.
I mean, you could tell by the budget was definitely a cigarette.
But yeah.
Yeah
That kid bought
like three packs and he had the gun under his arm.
He's like, no, I'm going to pay for these cigarettes.
He's like, I'm going to turn all this paper.
Philip Morris, if you want to sponsor this show, let me know.
But yeah, that's the last.. of uh, my notes.
Uh, I want to give it, uh, I gave it a two and a half.
I think it was a fun movie
Uh, I definitely would watch it again for like, you know, shits and giggles.
Uh, I would definitely buy the, uh, the 4K.
This would be a good party night movie with your friends.
Absolutely.
I think and enjoying it.
I'm going to bring it back.
I swear.
And I think that this
may have been one of the movies that there's a film group out here called a popcorn Reef.
And I think now I think about it, I
do believe that when that 4K came out, they did
a screening at one of the theaters here of this movie
So that's's cool.
They actually do a lot of that sort of stuff.
Nice.
Oh, yeah.
And then you can find me at Daily Dares and all the socials.
Yeah.
HLP says vodka should have sponsored this movie because the mom is such an alcoholic.
That's a good point HLP.
Brought to you by all the devices.
All right, Arnold.
Well, let's quickly get your final thoughts then, you know what comes after that, my friend?
Yeah.
Brought to you by Popov.
Isn't that a vodka brand that you like this thequor?
I vodka, yeah.
I mean, I feel like that's kind of proper for this.
I mean, for the movie.
But yeah, really, yeah, not a very good movie.
I did leave, I definitely left some
parts to be filled in for me
simply because what we'll go over that in.
You need to be filled in?
Yeah, yeah.
Nice.
How much How much fill in in do you need?
How many inches?
probably like the the last quarter.
Yeah, last quarter.
The last quarter.
Yeah.
Last quarter inch?
Cool.
Excuse me.
You would have been a good newspaper, Matt.
Put it at three three inches below the fold.
Right.
Anyways, go ahead.
I'm sorry.
Yeah.
Some of the scenes like the school,
I was like, wow, this is a really nice
I was kind of confused whether it was high school, college.
Kind kind of made me think of like Beverly Hills 90210,
especially how they're like, oh, it's like really nice and
yeah.
But then and then like, oh, let's just, hey, hey, let's go to breakfast.
I'm like, what the hell?
Like when you have that kind of went to the peach pit.
Yeah..
The peach pit.
The peach pit.
Hey, Nat, how the usual.
They have a day that they go and take pictures and stuff and
Yeah, the hair.
It felt strangely modern for a 1980s movie in that way in that sense, you know?
I wonder if Beverly Hills 90210 got any inspiration.
Could have.
Especially with Ian Zeering with Ian Ziering, with Michael's hair.
Yeah.
He copied Michael's hair in that.
I'm pretty sure that he copied that from this movie.
Because this what, 1984?
1988.
88.
Oh, Yeah, so kind of like right around there.
There you go.
I mean, Sam, you said it very well.
Zany.
Like,
That's a good way to put this to describe this movie.
Just yeah, definitely wanted to watch and make fun of and laugh at.
Not really.
It was kind of like, you know, what, 6' seven.
Carl, who did you watch it with?
Did you watch it with Carla?
I watched it with my doggies.
Oh, nice.
What did your doggies think?
Yeah, they loved it.
They were dreaming away.
What's Bruce's Letterbox, by the way?
What did Molly think?
Did she say?
They were both knocked out.
And I kind of I was there with them too.
What's Molly's prefer brand of cigarettes?
Camel.
Uh-huh.
Oh, okay.
And Bruce is more of a parliament kind of guy.
I'm.
I thought.
Bruce was more of a vapor.
Yeah.
I could see that?
I'm more of a cigar kind of guy.
I saw him as more of an American spirit.
Yeah.
I would I'll roll it for him.
I was thinking of maybe Benson at Hedges or something like.
Fancy it like that, you know Virginia Slims?
The long.
Yeah.
Arnold, working people will find you?
I'm Arnie Klego everywhere.
I' see Instagram and TikTok lately.
You can find me on LinkedIn.
What was your letterbox rating?
Oh, my letterbox.
I give it a one and a half.
Thank you for that.
One and a half out of five.
Hell yeah.
All right, Arnold.
Well, hey, this is my favorite part of the show, Arnold.
You you know what's coming?
It's time for for the Arnolds news, I
There we go.
Hey, Sam, I made that myself, by the way.
I hope you like that one.
It's pretty good, right?
I'm proud of you.
You know what, buddy?
I really.
It's amazing.
Hey, four years of art school, right?
Thank you.
Oh, yeah, tell me about it.
Yeah.
Oh, my God.
Reaction to that.
Yeah, all right, has the highlight.
That's the highlight.
Here we go.
For this?
Well.
I'd give this a 3
with my boy, Bruce right here.
A 3Z. 3Z's.
So you dozed off a little bit, huh?
3Z, yeah, and you know what?
I was thinking of going back to it, but
I was like, you know what?
I'll just find out how the movie ended from the show.
And, um....
I don't feel like I missed it very much.
Except I didn't know there was a funeral at the end.
I didn't know that the rose like,
Would you say it came to life again?
Or shriveled up?
I would say.
I highly recommend only watching the third act of the movie.
That's the best part of the movie the movie, honestly.
Yeah.
And I'll do it in one and a half speed at one and a half speed..
Oh, yeah.
Because that definitely amplifies the zaniness to it while I guarantee it.
And don't do speed while you're
Yeah.
Please don't do.
And don't speed while you're watching us if you're on the road, either.
Unless you're watching the speed.
Keep it under 50, folks.
Yeah.
Oh, I can't think of that.
And three grams.
And three grams of it.
Yeah.
Oh, right..
Yes.
Enough about that.
Last but not least, you, Adrian, Mr. BWO
TZ2B. Thank you for that, Arnold.
So I don't know how much more to say.
Yeah.
I mean, this movie did make me laugh.
It was ridiculously bad, but definitely in that sort of the camp of like, it's so bad, it's good
The acting is bad, but the voiceover acting is even worse somehow.
I do appreciate that like there
are sort of these obscure cult movies like this that kind of garner a following.
I mean, La McGinnon is definitely one of them, too, which we've talked about on this show.
So, I think there's something to a movie that can be bad and
still make you laugh, still make you have a good discussion about it like we did tonight.
So, you know, for that alone, I give this movie a strong, a strong
half a star on Letterbox on.
So you can find me on Letterbox at Boots Tooth Big.
You can find the show everywhere else, where everywhere, guys.

Yeah.
We should do that too.
We have a math department working on that right now.
