Never Seen It Podcast #101 — Spider-Man Brand New Day (2026)

Episode Summary

We swing into Spider-Man: Brand New Day for a spoiler-filled discussion about Tom Holland’s latest adventure as Peter Parker. We break down the emotional story, the action, the supporting cast, the return of familiar Marvel characters, Jean Grey’s introduction, comic book references, and whether this movie proves that superhero fatigue is really just bad superhero movie fatigue.

Episode Notes

In this episode of the Never Seen It Podcast, we dive deep into Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the latest chapter in Tom Holland’s journey as Peter Parker.

We discuss why this version of Spider-Man feels more emotionally mature than ever, with Peter forced to navigate a world where the people closest to him no longer remember who he is. We explore the movie’s themes of loneliness, isolation, identity, and growing up, while also breaking down how Spider-Man: Brand New Day balances its emotional storytelling with big superhero action.

We also debate where Tom Holland ranks among the live-action Spider-Men, comparing his performance to Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. Is Holland becoming the definitive modern Spider-Man? And does Brand New Day showcase the strongest and most seasoned version of his Peter Parker yet?

Of course, we get into the movie’s stacked supporting cast, including Zendaya, John Bernthal’s Punisher, Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk, and Sadie Sink’s Jean Grey. We discuss Jean Grey’s role in the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe, what her introduction could mean for the future of the X-Men, and how Brand New Day may connect to the road ahead for Marvel, including Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars.

We also talk about the movie’s street-level approach to Spider-Man, the appearances of villains like Tombstone and Scorpion, the comic book references hidden throughout the action, and the surprising influence of the Spider-Man video games on the movie’s visuals and fight scenes.

Plus, we go off on plenty of classic Never Seen It tangents involving Hulk movies, the Punisher, superhero recasting, Marvel fatigue, Mortal Kombat confusion, and why maybe the problem isn’t superhero fatigue at all... maybe we’re just tired of bad superhero movies.

Is Spider-Man: Brand New Day the fresh start Marvel needed? Does Tom Holland deliver his best Spider-Man performance yet? And has this movie actually reignited our excitement for the future of the MCU?

Listen now and join the conversation!

Welcome to the Never Cen Podcast, podcast called Never Seen It That's worth listening to with us tonight.

Mr. Arnie, The One Man Party.

Arnold Gallgo's here, Mr. Daly Dares, a.K. Filipino Grigio and aka.

Alex Gallo, the brother Calo, Mr. Ghost Nerd 88, ak.

Justin Arwin.

And then there's me, Boots Too big, aka Adrian Delat Tor.

And tonight, where''re discussing in a 2026 film Spider-Man Brand New Day

Because I'm not just Peter Parker.

I'm Spider Man.

Guarted by destined Daniel Cretin, fighting

crime full time, a Spider man in a world that doesn't remember him

and the pressure of seeing his old friends move on without him,

sparks a change in Peter Parker.

He may not have the power to control, but that transformation

might also be the only thing that can stop a shocking new threat to the city

and those he loves, a powerful villain.

No one can see. starring Tom Hollins

and Dia, Jacob Batalin, John Bernthal,

Tremel Tillman from Severance, who is fantastic.

And Sadie Sink

is Jean Gray.

And I believe, how Alex, you chose this movie, Spider-Man Brand New Day?

Tell us, what made you choose this movie?

It's because it was a recent movie.

I also really enjoyed this film

To be honest, it's kind of..

Spider-Man is like the

relatable character to like a lot of people from what I hear.

Like they, you know, people kind of

get that whole like working class hero,

who's a kid struggling with like connecting with people.

And what more of a struggle

than people forgetting who you are in this

this film, nobody knows.

He's like such a isolated character in this film.

And so I think that like for many

of us who have like, especially

post-pandemic kids, they live several years

in isolation, even as adults, we some

people like, like had to work from home.

Others just lost their jobs.

They couldn't work at all.

For me, I during the pandemic, I drove

a lot of DoorDash, pretty lonely time to be doing that.

You don't even get the privilege of like having somebody to

hand the food to.

You just kind of like leave it on the door.

And so, you know, that kind of isolation is relatable.

And, um and you see that a lot in brand new day.

So I think it's it touches on a lot of like relatable aspects of

the human condition.

I also want to say, I think Tom Holland does

something with Peter Parker that neither Toby nor Andrew Garfield did.

And I don't know what it is exactly.

I know that like in the first couple movies, the Awkwardness was really well done.

I was like, oh, that's so Peter Parker that

even, Andrew Garfield, neither him or Toby did well.

Toby touched on a good amount of awkwardness.

Andrew Garfield is too charming, but Tom Holland, man, he nailed that awkwardness.

But in this movie, now that he's grownown, he's older, he's more

experienced, there's like this emotional death to him that I

don't know that neither Toby or Andrew Garfield brought to the role.

I mean, what do you guys think?

Justin, I'll start with you.

Where does he rank in

your Spider-Man actors, Tom Holland?

I mean, for me, it's a given with Toby McGuire.

I mean, I have to get credit to, you know, technically

the first one to be introduced as

Spider-Man in a cinematic sense.

I mean, there are past Spider-Mans.

I think there's like a past 60s live action Spider-Man somewhere out there.

But it was like, you know, goofy, campy.

Yeah.

It was definitely meant for kids and then there's an animated series

But I think as far as like bringing us a true vision

of Spider-Man realized, Toby McGuire.

But I will say, I think Tom Hall Holland

is a really good rendition of a younger Spider-Man

not saying that Toby's age matters, really.

I don't think that the age of Spider-Man really matters because there's

as you see that there's many different ages of Spider-Man

throughout the multiverse, especially with that introduced

I think, as far as like younger actors to portray

a younger version of Spider-Man.

Tom Holland probably does it the best.

I think he does it the best, especially in this movie, brand new new day.

I think this really actually showed his

true dedication to being Spider-Man,

and it shows his acting chops.

You can see he's a little bit more seasoned now compared to

the other films where the other films, he's a young kid.

He's super excited

very ambitious.

You can tell that this is like his first really

big gig in anything.

I don't know if Tom Holland had a gig in anything, maybe

some commercials or maybe some other like smaller movies and I'm I can't think of right now.

Yeah.

I think they, I think Marvel did a really good job at

picking a Spider-Man that that people

could also, or like younger kids can look up to and grow up with

him because he's kind of growing up too.

So as far as like Spider-M's go, Toby

you know, gets the crown for just being there

and being selected to play a really important role.

I think Tom Holland kind of emphasizes the Spider-Man role.

No, I agree.

Arnold, I agree with you, Justin.

I'd have to say

Toby, number one.

Number one, mainly because the only other Spider-Man I've seen is

the Toby Maguire Spider-Man.

And I think I only seen it was there. two of them?

Yeah, Andrew Garfield did the later iterations of

Spider-Man in like the early 20 teens.

In my opinion, I think Andrew Garfield

had the privilege of being a

Spider-Man in a very sad storyline.

That's a good point, actually.

Well, you mean the first amazing Spider-Man that he didn't?

Or the second one?

Both of them.

Both of them.

Even if you go into watching those movies,

even if you've never seen them before, it is very

I'm not going to say like dark and and depressing,

but it has a very set tone to it.

Do you think that was because of the Nolan effect of superhero

movies in that era where like Batman begins in Dark Knight were so successful when everyone's like, we got to do

gritty version of this character.

Do you think that?

No, you don't think so?

I don't think so.

No.

Only because that movie is still a very like

highly saturated in areas.

It does have like aspects where

you know, it does have, you know, its good, happy side, you know, typical Spider-Man side.

But, you know, the storytelling with

that particular Spider-Man really brings out

the sadness, especially for Andrew Garfield's version

he kind of, he is kind of put in

a situation that he can't come back from and

that's portrayed in, you know, the

what movie was it that had all the Spider-Mans come out?

No Way Home?

No Way Home. yeah.

Yeah.

You can kind of see that he's

given a second chance in that movie.

And he, I mean, he's he's sad, man.

Like you go back and watch that movie, both of those movies

you're like, man, they really fucked up Spider-Man like mentally.

I'll have to be a completionist to watch Amazing

Spider-Man too, because I didn't like the first Amazing Spider-Man, so

I never was interested in watching the next one.

That's a shame because in my opinion, the second one is Andrew Garfield's best one.

Interesting.

I'm going to have to watch it now.

Arnold, but yeah, you were saying like, so who is your favorite Spider-Man of the three?

Okay.

So Toby McGuire won

Tom Holland two and Garfield.

Yeah.

What's his first name?

Andrew Garfield.

Andrew Garfield..

You were watching this, Arnold, like, did you notice how

they really balanced the action with the emotional story?

I'm sure you had to have appreciated that, right?

As someone who loves action?

I do feel that it was very, yeah, I

didn't really think of it, think it through, but yeah, it felt very balanced in

terms of like the action, the story, the

oh, the emotion, like you say.

And I didn't see any of the previous Tom Holland

ones, but my stepdaughter told me that, you know, one

main big thing that we should know is

that is now, spoilers for those of you who haven't seen

the first three first

two of this Tom Holland series, Spider-Man, that

I guess the one.

Do you count Civil War?

Technically that's six.

He's been in six Marvel movies.

I was going to say, yeah, like the previous five

This would be 70., actually, that

he had to like, everybody had to forget

or erase their memory about.

In the third movie, they had to forget.

They had to erase it.

Arnold from the timeline, yeah.

Yeah.

Because it was screwing up the timeline.

So Doctor.

Strange, right?

Was it Doctor Strange who helped him erase him from this.

It's been a while.

Yeah.

It's been a while.

Who sings that song?

It's Wow.

Stained.

I don't know.

Was it Stained?

I think it's.

I think it was.

I thought it was..

PC. It's not Lincoln Park?

No?

Hold on, Hold on, Arnold.m

so I just stand my pants.

There you go.

Copyright.

Copright right.

Oh, we're right..

Arnold.

You're right, Alex.

You're a fan of Linkin Park.

You should know that's a Linkin Park song.

Oh, I know.

Anyway, sorry.

I mean, there's so many different versions.

I like the one that Justin was singing the

Stained my pants.

I agree.

I agree.

That's the best version.

No, so

Here's the thing about Tom Holland in this one.

Why I was saying that to me, he was he did something different.

There's something about the sadness of him being alone.

You mentioned this, Alex, like how he's alone in this big world

and he's sort of like, it's almost weird.

He's kind of like, it's kind of self-inflicted.

He's self-inflicted, but he's also like moonlighting

as a cop for the cops.

He's not a cop, but you know what I mean?

He's really Well, you know, it's one of those things when you when you're experiencing loneliness, you kind of just delt.

Like if you, you have nothing better to do.

So you just delve right into your work, whatever it is.

Let me ask you this, Alex, as our resident comic book reader,

is there president in the comics for Spider-Man working that closely with the police

I couldn't tell you.

I'm not that much of a comic book expert.

I'll be honest.

I'm just going to go based off of like general

intuition and not knowing any like past things up with the comics.

But I would assume if you're lonely like

that, everybody forgot about you, you kind of have the freedom to kind of

do what you want.

He's no longer like this vigilante,

which means that people are more accepting of him, I guess.

They have no memory of his past actions.

So he'd be like, okay, well, this will be my chance

to kind of like work a little bit more closely with the community, maybe meet something new friends

So I'm going to join the police force or work with them in some shape or form.

I like that character.

I got to find her name really quick.

Oh, she was the one that that was also in Bear.

The Bear, yeah.

Zabrinarina Guera?

The one that plays the chief, right?

Yeah.

Actually, I think....

No, yeah, she's a police chief.

Yeah, she's the police commander for whatever precinct.

And I thought she was really good.

I was kind of surprised they gave her a little bit of an art, like, with her kids and stuff.

She's like Spider-Man.

She's a great actress.

Like, I mean, you if you've watched The Bear, Her art in that show

is so, like.. like,

it's, it's heartwarming and it's like, you know, it's

one of those, the stories where you see somebody,

you know, fighting against their, uh,

what they are being given because

they like, they feel what they don't deserve it, you know?

And it's kind of like, I feel like she she knows how to

portray those kind of, like internal

people who have like those internal struggles.

Yeah.

Not that she she was playing that kind of character in Spider-Man.

No.

Anybody who can like do that kind of role definitely has some acting chops.

Yeah, no, she was great.

The entire supporting cast in this movie is fantastic.

John Bernthal as Punisher,

I was not expecting such a good performance from John Bthal.

I don't know why I say that because I mostly've seen him he was.

He was very goofy.

And it's funny that him and Peter Parker, Tom Holland were also in the Odyssey

this year as well.

And now they're paired up together in this movie.

They're like best friends now.

They're like best friends.

I want to see more of that, actually.

I want to see more Punisher, Spider-Man, crossover.

I'm guessing they're going to have to do that.

Possibly.

I feel like moving forward, I don't know how long

I mean, I would figure he's going to be doing two more

movies to do like another trilogy.

But like after the, you know,

the Doomsday Doctor.

Doom, you know, whatever Secret Wars stuff.

I would assume that he's going to stay around

after..

And quick question about Punisher.

He doesn't really have powers, right?

He He just has like a lot of guns.

He's.

He's just a regular He's not a superhuman, like Captain America.

He's like a sharp shooter or whatever.

He's really at a well

trained in weapons

He's definitely, like what you're talking about.

River and the the Project Hail Mary thing, the competency porn.

Yeah, that's him.

He epitomizes that.

He's surgical with an assault rifle and a sniper rifle, right?

Yeah..

He has to be with a sniper rifle because at the end of the movie, he shoots

well, he's trying to shoot Sadie Sink, which we'll get to, but he

shoots Peter Parker instead.

I laugh, even though it's a very intense scene.

It was great.

Spoiler alert, everybody.

Spoiler alert for a movie that, yeah.

Mark Rolfalo comes back as as

Mr. Bruce Banner, obviously, fessor, Bruce Banner.

No, he doesn't come back as Bruce.

He comes back as the Hulk.k That's true.

Well, true form Hulk, finally.

Yeah.

So you say finally, is that because this is the biggest we've

seen him in and that that's how big he's supposed to be?

And in the canon?

Is that why he?

It's because they nerfed him in the other movies.

Like he did in Avengers Eden game.

He's nerfed, like, big time.

I like, they just made him like

Bruce Banner with Hulk' strength.

And Really?

I'm like, it's cool.

Whatever.

He's, he's like a good actor and everything, but they really,

the writers nerfed Hulk big time.

And I don't know if it is because like, oh, you know, it's still a

kid's movie, so we can't make the Hulk that scary.

But man, Scary Hulk is the best Hulk,

like unhinged, like no mercy

freight Train Hulk is the best version.

Let me ask you this, Justin.

Out of Mark Ruffalo, Edward Norton,

and Eric Bana, who was the scariest Hulk of those three, in your opinion?

Only because the movie scared me and there

wasn't a whole lot going on in that movie, just the scenes where the Hulk

comes about and it kind of scared me.

Was that the original Hulk movie

with Eric Banner who just said his name.

There was that Eric B that I don't.

Yeah..

There's something about that movie where the Hulk is just, he's portrayed as a really scary character

And even though not a whole lot happens in that movie,

the moments that he is, the Hulk, it's kind of terrifying.

And the CGI is not as good as it used to be.

Like back in the day, at least one in that movie first came out for me,

I was like, man, like the CGI on the Hulk is kind of amazing.

It looks like realistic.

I go back now, I'm like, But

back in the day, as far as like when I was there

to see it, that was a much scarier Hulk.

I need to revisit that Hulk.

I thought it was a decent-ish movie.

Yeah, I think

the Incredible Hulk, though.

I didn't like that one.

I thought that was Edward Norton Hulk.

I thought he was a, I think he portrayed a great Hulk and a great Bruce Banner.

But, you know, they

change actors in movies and licensing. and yeah.

To be fair, like the original one with

Eric Bonana, that one was directed

by Angli, and Angli was coming off of, I can't remember

via.

He did Life of Pie, Broke that Mountain, Crouching Tiger.

Sensibility.

It broke you say?

It was like a it was an Asian film and it got nominated for like

Pushing H Academy Wars.

Which one?

Pushing Hands.

I can't remember.

Was it?

I'm sure it's not Crouching Tiger?

Because it's..

Lee one Oscars, so I don't know.

It was definitely like something like a drama.

No, no, no.

But anyway, it was a.

It's not the notebook, was it?

No.

Sorry.

So here in order, so he did.

I wish I was that dim lake, fine line,

pushing hands, the wedding banquet.

Eat drinkman, woman.

I think it was.

I think it was either the wedding banquet or I

But yeah, he's like very, he

was known for being this kind of artistic artur

with his films.

And when he was picked to

direct the original Hulkk, he kind of

took that

kind of artistic vision, but it was

kind of like he didn't understand how comic book movies should be done.

He like took it almost literal.

There were like frames

where it was like it was supposed to emulate the

framing in like a comic book.

And that kind of comes off way too like kind of campy.

Yeah.

What an interesting career.

There's a time and place for that.

He had a bunch of dramas, right?

And by the way, he he's worked with Tokyo Maguire several times

And then he had Hulk and then Broke

Back Mountain and then like back to more dramas.

Lust, caution, talking Woodstock, Life of Pie.

And then he did that terrible Gemini Man with Will Smith.

Oh, I looked terrible.

I didn't see it, actually.

It was terrible.

It was

What a weird career.

Like, from dramas to..

Michael P is amazing, though.

I haven't seen that either.

I've heard that's good.

Oh, yeah..

That's the studio that the CGI company got bankrupt after they won the Oscar.

I remember Arno... like you got a bunch of Life

of Pie bags from World Market or something.

I still have the bag.

Yeah, I see it every day in the garage..

Can I have one?

And sold them on EV yet?

No, but I did sell several of them.

And this is like one of the last ones that I wanted to

keep because You're going to frame it?

Well, it's all dirty now.

Oh, that's.

What's your price, Bucko?

Well, I'm willing to let go of it for like.

We're negotiating $69 or something.

How much?

Maybe 67 or 69, 67 or 69, yeah.

No, but John Bernhal was great in this movie.

I have not seen any of the Punisher stuff.

I don't know any of the context.

From what I read, he had a pretty sad storyline or his character, right?

His canon is he loses his family and

his.

There was canon a really cool like.

I thought it was a kid.

There's There was a spotlight, like short.

It was like an hour long on Disney+.

And it was very violent and very brutal.

And I think it was, it kind of showcases

where the

Punisher's head is at at this time in place

in the movie, why he he's like kind of secluded himself,

how he's why he's chosen and like, you know, he gets how he gets into that whole sort of like

a conversation with Spider-Man when they get into the lair.

Like the Punisher's like little hideout.

He's like, you think I chose this?

You know, you think I want to be like this?

And he's like, and it kind of like.

I like that like, but you

don't really need to see, have seen that kind of lunchshot

special that they did on Disney Plus, but it

really gives like really good context as to where he is at his head is at.

Was it also played by John Bernthal?

Yeah.

Yeah.

Oh.

And I really like that moment where he says that, like, this isn't a lifestyle.

This is a sentence or whatever.

And I'm like, oh, man, the man can act.

And this movie, like really sprinkles in these great small dramatic moments.

And I want to talk about that because Zendaya obviously is Mary Jane or MJ.

You know, she doesn't remember Spider-Man because of the reset of the timeline and then

Spider-Man finds out Jean Gray's after her,

so he goes and takes her to John Burth, the Punisher's house as a safe house.

And then he has that letter, right?

The letter that he wrote

that he never gave to her about, you know, revealing everything that happened.

And then and then she finds it and we'll backtrack a little bit.

But then she finds the letter and she confronts him about it.

And then like there's that there's that scene with them talking back and forth

that was so dramatic and so emotional, by the way.

And I was like, man, like this movie really does a good job of like,

it can be a Spider-Man movie and be fun and do all that, but

can it also really get down to the nitty gritty emotional like

storyline that is who this character is and his

identity, as not just Spider-Man, but also as Peter Parker, the Peter Parker that was forgotten by

the love of his life.

And I don't know, I just thought that was such a well-d scene and well- acted

by Zendaya and Tom Holland and they

also, both, interestingly enough, were in the Odyssey earlier this year.

Like it's like there's only five actors that they keep hiring for every movie, apparently.

Every major movie anyway.

But what did you guys think about that scene?

Arnold, I I want to go to you first.

Did that that pull at the heart strings at all when you watched it?

What'd you feel when you watched that scene?

Yeah, no, I thought they did really good at that.

Well, I'm not sure which scene exactly in particular.

Remember when she confronts him about the letter?

She finds out that, oh, he's Peter Parker and we once were in love and stuff.

And now I know who you really are and stuff.

Well, because there was the other the other time when they're on the roof,

but then it turns out that it was a Jean Gray.

Controlling

That's right.

Zendaya's character, yeah.

When I was thinking, okay, did you guys know that it was Jean Grey?

that that was the, I don't know, bad guy?

So I have to actually, I'm glad you bring this up because I went to the bathroom during that moment.

So when I came back from the bathroom,

they were already like, oh no.

And then she like gets pushed off or she pushes herself off.

So I missed her getting taken over and him kissing her.

So like, what happened there, exactly?

Because before that..

Did you rewind it or were you in the the theater?

B Hold on, you went to the bathroom?

You didn't bring your phone?

No, I didn't See, before,

because Sadie Sink's character was jumping from body to body to body,

and then she was stuck in that high- rise crane.

So how did she jump from the guy in the crane to Zendaya's body?

What was the context there?

I missed it.

She was committing suicide. by the time she got

33 feet, she jumped to the next person.

Right, but how did she jump from the guy in the crane to Zendaya?

Because that was, I thought that was way far away.

Was she figuring it out?

Well, I mean, I think she was also growing stronger in her...

Like, it's like at the end of the movie, she realized her full potential.

And so did everybody else, apparently.

But I think she was just, the more she used her powers, the better she got.

And that's pretty much what that was.

So she jumped into her body.

We, as Yians don't know.

Peter Parker doesn't know.

And then she starts to say something.

What does she say to him?

Like, oh, I remember now?

Because I missed it.

So what does she say to him in that moment in that specific moment?

Do you guys remember?

I don't remember exactly

In the cartoon X-Men, Jean Gray wasn't

she able to like tap into anybody in the world?

But then she'd have to try and find him?

No, yeah, well, she could with the in the movies.

Cerero.

Yeah.

No, but in the movies, they need needed cerebro though.

Because Cerebro was like that machine that was able to like

tap into like, it expanded

their power, her powers feet.

But Professor X would have a lot?

Yeah, well, Professor X would also use that too.

So they were both telepaths and they could like

use that use cerebro to like find other mutants and talk to them.

Professor Xavier knew how powerful Gene

could be with cerebral, so he limited her

usage of cerebra because she

could also be overtaken too.

And if anybody were to overtake her while she was using cerebro,

then she would have unlimited power.

In particular, the Phoenix, the Phoenix

which there was a movie, right?

A Jean Grey movie called Something Phoenix with Sadie

C. was that was the Fox universe.

It's the Flight of the Phoenix.

Is that in the can?

I know that's a good movie, actually.

Is that in the canon of any of this?

Are we ignoring?

No, they're ignoring it.

I mean, what's going to happen with the whole like sort of like doomsday

and Secret Wars thing is like the that whole like idea of the incursions

and everything like that, if you've been following along

via there's all these different parallel,

you know, universes that are colliding with one another

and, you know, the Fox X-Men universe, which I'm assuming that

the Fox X-Men universe is being represented

by the version that we have here, but it's not the actual Fox X-Men universe.

I don't think they're going to try to even use that.

Because like if you look at, I think the only one

that's like kind of similar to the Fox X-Men

anything is Deadpool.

Everybody else is like a.pool seems to be like

a connective tissue with all these franchises and movies, right?

Because he's the fourth Wallbreaker guy, right?

And Deadpool and Wolverine, they make like a slight nod to

the Fox X-Men Because when Professor

Xavier, you know floats out, it does that like X-Men 97 noise or whatever.

Yeah.

It was pretty funny, but also all those characters are

from like their old school, like

uh, like Toad, for example, Toad and I forget whoever

else was in Deadpool and Wolverine.

They' They're all from the old Fox X-Men movies.

So we're going to ignore Dark Phoenix, even though that has

actors who are in the newer X-Men movies who

are some of them are going to be in the new X-Men stuff going forward or no?

Like James McAvoy, for example, is..

Nobody's going to be in the.

Oh, no X-Men.

Yeah.

At D23, they announced the..

What about Wolverine in the newcast?

He's like Hugh Jackson is way too old.

He's way too old, but isn't it interesting?

Like, I was thinking about this the other day.

I was like, some actors are so iconic in their roles.

How do you replace how do you replace R as Iron Man down the line?

How do you replace?

They're going to have to.

I know they're going to have to, but man, that's going to be some big shoes to fill.

Oh, absolutely.

Absolutely.

He's going to go out killed again, I bet you.

They've just been to read before he gets even older.

Yeah.

Well, well, here's the thing, too.

Look at it this way.

How many times we're watching Spider-Man?

How many times have they recassed Spider?

Spider-Man?

Three times.

Yeah, well, and that's not including

the other stuff, the stuff from the 70s and 80s.

Oh, yeah, that's true.

You know, things like that, you know.

So if you think about it, like, it's all going to, they're all going to be recast.

And we're going to all have to get used to it.

Yeah.

And that's the thing that I don't get like, oh, why can't we have like our old.

Well, because they're getting old, you know, because Evans can't play

Captain America forever.

And I'm sure he doesn't.

They're getting older and they're getting expensive because when you're paying RJ

$100 million to do like 30 minutes of screen time, you're like, you know what?

We better hire some cheaper act.

No, I'm kidding, actually.

But he is getting paid.

Tom Holland, I think it came out.

He got paid $100 million for the for this.

I don't know, it was just for this movie or it's just a commitment for

It's probably a commit movie to the next several films.

But RDJ got paid a lot of money for one specific movie.

I don't know if it was Endgame or Infinity War or which one specifically,

but they paid him like $100 million just for like,

I think it was Infinity War and Endgame together.

They're like, I feel like they

his contract had ended, but like they knew

that they needed to have him in there so that And he

he wanted to, but like, obviously he's going to get he's going to want to get paid for doing this.

But, but and obviously this all ties back to Brand New Day.

Brand New Day is part of

a series of movies going forward that are setting

up, well, Doomsday, and then eventually, what's the one that comes out next year's Secret Wars?

Is that what it's called?

Yeah, Doomsday and the Secret Wars.

Gotcha.cha.

So they had to introduce about Secret Wars because it's a secret.

Yeah.

And they had to introduce Jean Grey.

I know it's a war.

They had to establish her in this movie movie, right?

Like, this is like, this is really 75% Spider-Man movie, 25%

Sadie Sink, Jean Grace, introduction, right??

Yeah.

Or Punishers just mince meat or what?

Punishers is just like..

Definitely not.

He's a side character, but he's an important side character, right?

Well, and here's the thing, like the way they're

setting up Spider-Man in this trilogy, I believe, is that

he's going to be more dealing with like street

level, um, like threats, you know?

And then that's where like people like daredevil, Punisher.

I think they're, they are going to bring in the heroes for hire, which is going to be, um,

Iron Fist and what's the other Luke Cage

they're going to bring those guys in?

I don't know if it's going to be the same guys that played those two.

I wasn't really fond of the guy that they picked for Iron Fist, but he was kind of.. kind of crazy.

So there was like Mortal Kombat into it as well?

I don't think they're going to do Mortal Kombat.

No, Arnold.

We' the Cage.

Who even earns Mortal Kombat the ones at IP.

Maybe I' Johnny Cage.

You're thinking of Donnie, Johnny Cage, yeah.

Never mind.

Mortal Kombat.

You know, I didn't watch that movie I was a kid.

And like, it was a hot movie, even though it wasn't, right?

It was Mortal Kombat movies.

Mortal Kombat?

I Listen to the song more than I've ever seen the movie.

Same.

By the way, I played the video game more.

I was wrong

Liza Colonzas plays the detective character.

I don't know who who was I confusing her with?

I was confusing her with a different actress.

Are we talking Spider-Man?

We're talking Spider-Man Brand New Day.

The detective characters played by Liza Colon Zas.

So the girl the bear?

No, the other girl in the bear.

What?

Wait, what, what?

Z Zabrina Gueera was in the bear.

Okay.

I don't.

Okay.

I can't remember what character she plays in Spider-Man.

There was another detective?

She wasn't a detective

She was Sheila Rivera.

She's Sheila Rivera.

Who was that in Brand New Day?

I don't remember..

I don't.

It doesn't matter.

It doesn't matter.

But going back to the movie,

Sadie Sink as Jean Gray, this is like her setup story.

And then I also like, that's what I was going to talk about.

I like the street-level crimes that Peter fights.

I like that he's got like little mini scenes with

like other villains that are in part of his lore, like Tombstone, which I've never heard of.

I don't know what you guys know about Tombstone.

Have anyone can tell me about that.

Hey, shout out to one of our previous episodes

Yeah.

That's cheap.

Yeah.

Not at all related, but the same name, yes, thank you.

Oh, it's not.

And Michael Mando, who you may know from Better

Call Saul played the Scorpion Scorpion.

I liked that they had

you know, like just those other villains in here.

Justin.

It is a kind of crossing with Mortal Kombat a little bit.

C yeah, Justin?

Oh, thanks, Arnold.

I appreciate you.

I wanted to point out the thing I liked a lot about

the way that they posed Spider-Man in

this movie reminds me a lot of the Spider-Man video games, man.

They like frame for frame,

like they have the same similar poses.

So it seems like some of the people that were editing this

movie were definitely fans of the Spider-Man games, the Amazing Spider-Man.

I think it's the Amazing or is it just Spider-Man?

I think it's just Spider-Man.

Yeah.

They were inspired by those movies, like his poses, his webbing.

I was like, oh, that's really cool because in

the video games, you can't, like while you're swinging

along, you can kind of do poses and stuff.

And in the movie, they like,

it's the same shit.

Like, you could see if you go and look

up scenes from the video game and compare

it to a brand new day, you're like, oh, okay, I could see their inspiration.

It's like one for one.

It's kind of crazy how they incorporated

the video game in with the movie as well.

Yeah, but also it's a Sonyony thing, too.

Yeah, they also like include a lot of references to like,

like very famous covers from Spider-Man comic books.

Like the, you know, like, like Tombstone.

There's a scene where Spider-Man is carrying tombstone.

You like see him swinging with Tombstone in his arm

That's directly from a comic book.

And there's another one, Boomerang man, I think.

Like you see like like an actual like, you know, representation.

If you look them up online, they have like the shot

for shot, like this is a reference

exactly to another Spider-Man comic book cover.

So I was I've never heard a Tombstone or Bmer Man.

Or even like the the

whole thing with the Punisher shooting at Spider-Man,

that's a direct correlation from an issue of Spider-Man.

Oh, yeah, I remember.

They referenced the meme in No Way Home where all the Spider Spider-Mans were pointing at each other.

Yeah.

I love that one.

That's right.

That's right.

Yeah, I saw it in an interview with Tom Holland where he said that they

did take a lot of inspiration from the video games

for some of the action scenes in this movie.

And I remember, so my kid who loves

video games, probably a bit too much.

This is like three years ago now, two years ago now.

He was playing on someone's PS5 or PS PS4, the Spider-Man game.

And I was like watching him play.

And I was like, oh my God, like, this looks fantastic.

Like, I think I'm missing out.

Like, this game looks

so fun and like the mechanics and the physics

are like, it looks like exactly how it would feel if you were swinging from building to building in New York City.

So I need to play that one of those days.

I saw something that that Tom Holland,

did a lot of his stunts and actually does a lot of them better than

a lot of the stuntmen.

Oh, really?

Like, man, like, he's really fit, like, super fit..

He really, he really dedicated his time to

learning about Spider-Man and that is not always the case with a lot of like actors.

Yeah.

He's dedicated to bring in the best Spider-Man.

And there was a moment in time where I'm like, okay, I think he's

probably starting to get a little bit lazy with the Spider-Man thing.

Kind of sort of.

And maybe it was the writing or something like that, but I

feel like there's been such like a Marvel

you know, I'm getting kind of bored

and tired of Marvel things, unfortunately I I'm kind of part of that bandwagon.

But was this movie part of that or did this movie..

No, I think this was like fresh air.

I'm like, this movie was fantastic.

I had had so much fun watching it

It made me realize that Tom Holland takes this role seriously,

even though like I had my doubts.

I think I think this is a step in the right direction.

And it actually made me really excited to

watch Doomsday because if it's if the writing is

anything like this, even if, I mean, this movie,

the writing, it was really good.

It was also kind of sort of on the simple side, but

if it's anything like this, I

would be very excited to check out Doomsday as well.

And I think it's kind of reignited my

my interest a little bit.

Somebody said that it's not superhero fatigue.

It's bad superhero movie fatigue.

And in movies like this are sort of reinvigorating the franchise a little bit.

And I think this is hyping up people more now for Doomsday because

even before the movie came out, people have like, oh, it's

going to be terrible because it's gone through all these different edits and all these different, like, blah, blah, blah, rewrites.

And it's like, guys, lots of movies, lots of

good movies go through that all the time.

Tons of rewrites, changing of directors, changing of blah, blah, blah.

You know, different studio heads come in and they have a different mandate.

It's really weird.

Like, look at what's happening with Warner Brothers.

David Zazlov came in and he's like, let's shel Batgirl.

Let's shel Coyote versus Acme.

Let's shelve this, let's shelve that.

It's like, you know, it happens.

Regime change

certainly plays into it.

So I think you just have to like trust the process, you know,

trust that some of these big franchises are going to like, they're going to even out, right?

It's going to like, they're going to course correct.

And I think they've done that.

I think they've accomplished that with this movie.

Right.

I think what actually happened,

too, though, they weren't so heavy-handed one with the

typical MCU humor.

I got really tired of that really, really fast.

I think a lot of people did.

And like, I think what happened was they took they took

a lot from what what James Gunn did.

And I let's give him credit for credits too.

James did James Gunn did a really great job with Guardians of the Galaxy.

He did.

But you cannot like make every single

movie have that kind of humor.

It's just not feasible.

It's not sustainable, you know, and it just Thunder is a good example example of that.

Absolutely

You know, and that's another thing too, is like, I

think what they've done really a really well, good job is like they've also

acknowledged parts of different kinds of canon.

Like, for instance, I was talking to one

of my coworkers today about Brand New Day.

And one of the things they did in this film was

they acknowledge both the organic and

the mechanical spider webs because if

you watch the original Toby Maguire, it's is

organic in the amazing Spider-Man Andrew Garfield one, it was mechanical.

Yeah.

And what they did was

they made it so that the Tom Holland

Spider-Man version can choose whether or not he wanted to

use the mechanical one or the organic one.

Because like that's how they did, you know how he was able to, they had like that control thing.

The control unit?

Yeah, the little unit.

That's how he was able to control his organic.

So he chose to use the mechanical ones

moving It's forward.

Can we talk about that arc?

Because it's always interesting to me in some of these superhero franchises

where the character has that moment where I'm

choosing to not just be me or the superrio version of me.

I'm choosing to be both.

They did that in Batman Forever.

Remember, he has that big monologue.

He's like, I'm not just Batman.

I'm Bruce Wayne and Batman

And then in this movie, Spider-Man does the same thing.

He's like, I'm not just Spider-Man and I'm not just Peter Parker.

I'm both.

He does that.

I think he does that to Jean Gray in that scene towards the end.

So before that, though, he has that amazing fight with the ninjas

and that's when he really like leans into the hand both.

The hand.

Is that what it's called?

The hand, yeah?

They're called the hand.

They're in like daredevil lore as well.

I'm guessing that every character in this movie has a ton of backstory and lore like Han Star Wars.

Like the guy with the toaster has like a whole profile on him.

and it's like backstring and stuff.

I love that, by the way.

I think that's that's a great world building.

But yeah, so I really appreciated that arc of Peter Parker

where he's's like, oh, you're turning more into a spider now than human.

And then he's like, ah, struggling with it.

And then he's like, you know, there's this whole toll that takes on him.

And then when he flights the hand, the hand, finally

he's like, fuck it, I'm both.

And he goes ham on the hand.

I thought that was a great sequence.

Arnold, did you appreciate that sequence?

I know, you know, as someone who likes Ninja movies and I say Nininja movies.

What am I talking about?

You know what I mean?

Well, I did watch the Daredevil Netflix series,

and so I was familiar with the Hand and I thought that was just like

so cool.

Oh, are they in that are they in that show as well?

I don't know that.

They were in the original..

Yeah.

Yeah, those.

They kind of reminded me of Master Splinter from Ninja Turtles in his movies.

Well, that's where that's That's where they got the name.

Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird got the name

the Foot Clan from the hand in Dan.

Oh, Wait, who owns Ninja Turtles?

It's not.

Who owns that IP?

Well, now it's Nicolodeon, Oh, now it's Nickelodeon.

Here's the thing.

Well, I don't.

I don't know who actually owns the actual con.

I don't know.

There's a whole thing I think there's

dark Didn't they have a dark Hor run?

Probably.

I Yeah, they hop from like different publishers.

They even had like a resurgence of

Mirage Studios, which was the original story studio that published Ninja Turtles.

So, yeah, the TV origin movie writes are owned by Paramount, Nickelodeon.

Everybody loves Paramount.

No.

But the comics are...

Eastman and Layard Mirage Studios

from the 90s or 80s to up to 2000 and

then it's changed hands several times and now it's kind of just underp Paramount.

Like the umbrella.

yeah, there you go.'s how long these franchises are always changing hands.

What's that, Arnold?

Did you say Paramount like that because of Paramount Lodge at Comic Con?

I don't I don't don't I don't don't understand it.

It's a joke because Paramount is like evil now.

Which I don't want to get political on the show, which we

never really do get political, but let's Let's just say that the Ellison own Paramount.

And the Ellins are like, they're like the Thanos of media.

No, not Thanos.

They're even less than that.

They're more like the, I don't know, Galact.

Yeah, that was too much a cap

Who Who was the robot, bad guy in the Avengers movie?

U Ultron?

Ultron.

Even Ultron had like some sort of like.

No..

A robot.

And even, I guess in the

upcoming Vision Quest, Ultron as part of the and he's kind of like helping.

He's kind of.

How are you going to bring back James James.

James Spader?

James Spader?

Yeah..

Oh, I love James Spader., he's going to be in that show.

Did you guys watch The Office with James Spader?

Did you guys?

I love that.

Do you remember he's like,

Oh, I love.

I'm fine, bitch.

I'm fine.

Like, that's such a good hope that Ultron

is dressed up in his detective outfit.

Yeah.

Oh, because he from the blacklist, yeah.

So many.

I feel like Marvel is one degree away from like every

other character and actor in Hollywood, right?

Like, because everyone has been in these movies.

Except for like Leo DiCaprio, who's like, I think he refuses

to do a superhero movie, which is

kind of a shame because I feel like like at his age or the money he has, he could do anything and doesn't wouldn't fucking matter.

But

yeah.

That's his cup of tea. cup not his But

anyway, okay, so let's talk about Jean Gray.

Jean Gray is Sadie Sink.

Sadie Sink is Jean Gray.

What am I talking about?

And Jean Gray has this power where she can jump

her body to body to control them and stuff.

And obviously, that's a huge plot threat throughout this entire movie.

There was one moment that I wanted to

talk to you guys about specifically to start where remember when

he's walking out of a building and this African-American gentleman walks

up to Peter Parker and he starts talking to him and it's Jean Gray talking through him.

I don't know why for a moment, I felt that was going to be like a Miles Morales

like, you know, sprinkling him in a little bit, but it's not, but I thought maybe it could have been.

Did you guys notice that they kind of focused on him a little bit more than they should have?

I don't know.

Maybe I'm just overthinking.

I think they focus on the little kid.

And I was like the little kid that.

At the end of the movie, right?

Outside the hospital.

Miles Morales, because was it technically Miles Morales is Puerto Rican?

Yeah.

Or he's mixed.

It was the kid outside the hospital, right?

Something like that.

I

Yeah.

I noticed that too.

I feel like they're probably sprinkling it in

with the, because that police officer that

he was working with, that's by, yeah.

There might be some court relation to Miles Morales.

Because Miles Morales's

dad is a police officer.

And so, like, you, and a lot of times there's like generations, that's true

people, like who are like working in the, like the fire department, like,

like, you know, a police department, you know, who's Miles Morales?

So Miles Morales is

he becomes a different version of Spider-Man for a different Spider-Man.

Arnold, you have to watch.

Watch it with your stepdau.

Spider-Man across the multiverse or whatever, across the.

The Spider-Verse movies?

Yes, those.

Watch the Spider-Vse movie.

Watch those with your stepdghter.

Morales.

In the comic book?

In the comic book, he's

Miles Morales, that Batman

Spider-Man is from the Ultimates universe, quote unquote.

But he

like eventually becomes, I guess he becomes the main canon

Spider-Man.

I don't know somehow.

Like they made him the main canon Spider-Man.

In the Spider-Verse movies or in the comics?

In the comics.

Oh, in the comics.

Okay.

So it sounds like there's a fourth one.

Yeah, so.

So there's Toby Maguire.

There's more, actually.

There's like thousands of Spider-Mans if you watch Spider-Man.

There's, yeah, there's a Japanese

anime Spiderider-Man.

There's like an Android Spider-Man.

There's Spider- Noir, which I think Justin, you mentioned

that movie recently with Nick Cage, which I heard it was fantastic.

I I've been watching it it.

I've been watching it.

It's actually, it's decent.

It's a show on Prime.

Yeah.

Are these worth sacrificing sleep

Because that's the only way I'll be able to watch them.

Spider-Vse movies?

I can speak on those, yes.

Spider- Noir is a good show..

Yeah.

But like, you don't have to binge it.

Just watch one episode a night or like one episode a week.

It's only an hour, less than an hour.

Just watch each of the two and a half hour Spider-Verse movies with your stepdaughter.

I think you guys will love them.

They're great.

They're supposed to be coming out with the third one, too.

It's been delayed again, unfortunately.

Again Sony, what are you doing?

And none of them is like with Andrew Garfield or Toby.

No, it's animated.

Oh, I know.

And supposedly, it's damn near finished, so 2028 it's a long time for a Finnish movie.

Yeah.

That's a whole thing we could probably get into, but.

So anyway, let's go back to Gan Gray for a minute.

Sorry.

I took a off track.

Sorry.. thing for Sadie Sadie Fink?

That's my fault.

Why?

Fink?

Our machine's not gray.

Sink.

Sink?

So Jean Gray, which, by the way, I forgot what

her abilities were from the original X-Men movies in the 90s and 2000s.

I need to revisit.

She's a telepath.

She's very.

She's a telepath.

Telekinesis.

In those original movies, could she jump from body to body, the way she does in this one?

Or is this a new?

It's not that she

It's not that she jumps from body to body.

She's controlling their mind.

Oh, okay.

So she does that in this movie, which it feels in you.

It feels fresh, and she's doing that.

She's fucking with Peter Parker and she's controlling the Hulk

and she's controlling all kinds of people.

And then it turns out her backstory

is that her sister..

Is she controlling the Hulk?

Well, she used the control unit that Peter

Parker made to control the Hulk and I confused.

I forgot. forgot about the control thing.

And we find out her backstory is that her sister had

the same penauowers and her sister was kidnapped by

the same, well, what are they called?

The control unit, or the control.

Damage control.

Damage control.

And they tortured her to Des her powers and all that.

Tremel Tillman is part of that whole thing.

And she's looking for something called, uh, what was it?

Um,

what was the V-max?

V-Mx.

V-max.

So she's like, what is V-max?

And Spider-Man.

It's like, he asked Tremmel Tillman's character.

What is V-max?

And and Tremel Till at one point's like, I don't know what that is.

I don't know what V-Mx is.

And then we as the audience are like, hmm, I wonder where this is going.

And then when they kidnap her, finally, Jean Gray, and she's sitting there in the chair

and she looks up at the fucking at the vent on

the ceiling and then we get a close-up and then it's like faded letters.

It used to say something like ventilation

max or maximum ventilation or something like that, but the letters were faded and they said V-max.

And then that's that's that was a really great, oh

shit moment where it's like, oh, so her sister was tortured

in the same exact position and that's where she the

last thing she saw before she died.

And I just thought that was brilliant, I don't know, twist, reveal, whatever you want to call it.

But yeah, I'll say you guys.

No, I thought that was like a good like sort of like um.

like diversion, you know, like smoke and mirrror. herring?

If you had a red herring, definitely a red herring, for sure.

We're not talking about Jean Gray's hair.

We're not talking about a fish..

It's funny because I remember in

the theater, I was watching it with Jess and she

turns to me and she's like, what's VMx?

And I was like, I don't even fucking know.

I don't know what VMx is.

Yeah.

I was like, it must have something to do with the comics that I'm not aware of.

And sure enough, it kind of sort of

didn't mean a whole lot except for the fact that your sister is dead.

That's basically what that meant.

Yeah, and and like I said, that reveal was so well done.

I wasn't expecting it at all.

I thought, oh, this is another random fake drug that they probably injected her away.

But no, it was something is simple as that.

Yeah, I was coming through my memory of like what possible

Marvel thing V-max could have been.

I was like, F F. It's the same here, man.

Remember I know Maloney's like, snakes, snakes.

I don't know anybody named Snake.

Yeah.

Yeah.

Yeah, Arnold's vast knowledge of Marvel comics

and Star Wars, you know, he was trying to remember

Yeah..

Sam.ite.

You know what?

Arnoldite.

You know what?

They should't off.

There's a million Marvel heroes, right?

Is there room in there for Jean-Claude Van

Damme to do a Marvel hero, maybe?

I mean, they're incorporating all these types of heroes.

Surely.

I was just going to say.

What is your favorite Marvel character that Van Mankin?

With your vast knowledge of Marvel comics, right?

Garlic van.

What was the.

OF man.

The Time Cop.

Time Cop.

Oh, I could see that.

Does Time Cop have Marvel comics?

Are you talking about cable?

Cable?

Yeah.

Jean-Cude Van Damme's cable, yeah.

What about.

All right, check this out.

And this is something you don't normally do.

Jamie, pull that up.

I Googled

most obscure Marvel heroes.

Have you guys ever heard of 3D Man?

Yes.

Is he in 3D?

Arnold's, yeah, who.

What does he look like, Arnold?

Before you pull up a picture, Adrian.

Because this was actually a big.

I'm testing Arnold's knowledge.

This was actually before there was 3D. I'm kind of upset.

because I looked him up.

And he's not in like the,

you know, blue, red 3D colors.

He's green and red.

Right.

Yeah, he's green and red.

I'm seeing that now.

I think actually that's the original

3D glasses, aren't they?

They red?

Yeah, I think the original, like old school.

And then I guess blue was actually a better color.

I don't know.

Because I remember when I was a kid,

they would have those like...

This might mess up the. thing again, but whatever.

I think it's worth.

This is I don't know who this is.

Whatever.

Is this.

Was this guy this Did he come out in something?

I have no clue if that's.

That doesn't even look like a guy that's

It looks like AI.

It doesn't look AI.

Some guy who just made up his character,

he's like, cast me as 3D man, please.

Yeah.

What the fuck?

But you're right.

Justin, he should be blue and red.

Why is he green and red?

Is he Christmasman

You know?

Or is it.

Because I see blue and red.

Is because you' you're color blank?

Let's see.

Who else we got.

Just kidding.

Do any of these ring a bell?

Let's see.

I'm curious now.

Is that a bell man?

Yeah.

Bellman.

Quar.

I'm familiar earthquar, yep..

War star?

I've heard of earthquake.

Magic.

So this magic, but I don't know if that's the same magic as..

Gladiator looks like a straight up Superman ripoff.

No, that's that's definitely a.

I've seen him before.

Smasher.

Oh, is that the

Oh, there's a Matrix crossover right there.

I say do a

whole movie with these guys, man, and then get Jean-Claude Van Dammon on the action.

Do you know what Jean Claude Van?

Damme?

Let's make him impulse.

No, he's....

Tempest.

Oh.

Manta.

Manta, you.

I like Nightside.

Nightside.

That's a cool design.

I like that design.

Oh, I have a friend I could probably play Nightside.

Oh, do you, Arnold?

Which. friend is it?

Arnold?

Well, I don't even know if they would be interested.

Yeah.

Say their name.

Huh?

Say her name, Say her name.

Say her name.

Yeah, we'll get JeanClaude Van Damme.

We'll talk to his agent.

We'll make it happen.

What I was going to say is, you know, what I really love about like

this movie, and I think they should do it a lot more.

It's like how they kind of really incorporate a lot of like

superheroes, like like from the X-Men and

Spider-Man from the Amazing Spider-Man and then you have Incredibleible Hulk

from the Incredible Hulk and then you know like Punisher from

like like the Punisher like it's pretty cool that they bring him together.

I think Marvel should do a little bit more of that.

you know, whether it bring in like superheroes.

Yeah.

Yeah, like what they've been doing in like all their other movies, right?

Yeah.

Yeah.

I thought that should do it more.

More.

Yeah, like in the secret.

You' go to Civil War. seriousness.

I'm inspired to go back and watch the original X-Men.

So am I.

Actually, now that Disney owns.

I remember liking those movies so much.

I like the first two.

Yeah, three was kind of a weird one, but.

Well, Brett Ratner, now we know he's like kind of a weirdo.

And Brian Singer.

Hold on.

So really quick, Jean Gray

has a clear story arc here and Peter

helps her see the light by giving her that

vision of the late Aunt May

And then she's like, she turns.

What's the wrestling term, Alex?

She turns baby face. face.

Baby.

Turns face.

And now she's a good girl.

Turned heel?

Well, she was a heel.

But here's the thing.

She killed people prior to all this.

Like, she caused accidentidents.

She caused a guy to get hit by a car.

Well, Is she going repent for her sins down the line as well.

Well, that's the thing about about the

Marvel characters in general. superheroes in general.

Like,

they're complex.

They're not perfect.

They're flawed.

And like, I think anybody holds any expectation

to any superhero whatsoever to be perfect,

to never do wrong, to have never done wrong in

the past, is really ridiculous.

I think that

we're all human.

They're human, you know?

For the most part.

You know, like I most of these characters, unless they're aliens like Superman.

But even then, you look at a character like Superman, especially in

the newest James Gunn version

he thought his parents were

like sending him for the right reasons, which you find out later on, he's not.

They didn'..

They wanted him to conquer Earth.

And so, like, you look at a character like Jean Gray.

They're all flawed, you know?

And I think that's the important thing to remember.

And like, even in the comic books, like Professor Xey find out that he's flawed.

And, like, you know

it's, it's the,

the big thing about like, like the superhero canon

is like, we need to.

The reason why we connect with them is because they're flawed.

I like that.

That's a good That's a great point.

I just think that like they're not going

to they can't gloss over the damage that she did.

And they't's bad, Jean Gray, right?

they're They're probably going to recognize it.

Like they're going to acknowledge it in the new series.

Yeah, I would hope so.

Just because like

you can't just gloss over it.

Like, you have to address it.

She has It has to be like a burden on her, you know, across to bear type of thing.

There's a lot of really great great setup in this for.

I agree to build on.

Yeah.

No, I agree.

And

the whole movie was, it was such a roller coaster of a movie.

I think of all the sp Spider-Man movies in general.

I think this one had the most like, just

major beats, major plot points of any of them, just

so much happening and all throughout this movie.

And they somehow managed to like bring in all these side characters.

They brought in Black Widow played by Florence

Pu.

Obviously, you know, they had.

Who stole the scene.

Who stole was great.

I love that scene in in the little Turkish bathhouse or whatever it was.

That was her office, per se.

I love Ned with his Spider-Man tracker, which isn't just a gag.

It ends up being like a very important plot point

And I love.

It was a funny moment where Punisher is like on his way

to meet up as Spider-Man and Spider-Man's like, well, how do you know I am?

He's like don't worry worry, kid.

I got voices everywhere.

And he just gives it a Spider-Man tracker up.

I thought that was so good.

Nothing is left to chance.

Everything has a purpose, like even like the

control unit thing that Peter Parker creates

that inadvertently works ends up working against him.

Like that's going to be huge.

I think another movie's downstream, right?

Because they wouldn't't just introduced something like that if it isn't going to come back later.

I'm assuming.

Right?

So

can we do something else, though?

Because the neck, the tracker on the neck thing, like they did

that in the fallout show, like come up with a different device, guys.

Like I feel like, you know, it's always the same, like, let's put it on the back of the neck.

It's always in the back of the neck.

I don't Well, you know why?

Because they're spine, you know what I mean?

And it's so much is controlled right there.

Yeah.

How about Arnold, turn around?

Turn around.

Let me see what's on the back of your neck, Arnold.

How about Let's do control by supply.ository.

You know what I'm saying?

That's got my back.

He's got some spider residue on the back of his neck.

Or down to my crack.

Anyways, so my point that I'm

getting into this rambling thought is that there's

a lot going on in this movie, and sometimes it like rises the sky Skywalker.

There's a shit ton going on in that movie that was awful.

But in this movie, all of it works.

It all kind of coalesces and comes together at the end

And I just think that that was just really well done.

Like good job on on their part for making all these moving

parts work together in tandem to tell a good story.

That's fun.

That's emotional.

And it's just an all around great Spider-Man movie, probably one of the best Spider-Man movies

Enough to shake your hips too and have a good time.

That's all I got to say on that.

You know, what else do we want to touch on?

Do we want to start to rap rock?

How are we feeling tonight, guys?

Let's

Feeling good, Feeling good in the neighborhood.

Well, I wanted to throw in something there.

Hit me with it.

Just real quick.

Two things, two things.

The first thing is I think this movie has

been the best portrayal of Gene Gray's powers

because I'm so used to seeing them at like, and X-Men

the animated series style where you just see the lines and stuff like that.

I think this movie portrays the extent

of Jean Grey's powers in that way.

Can I add to that really quick?

Yes.

The way they did that, they hired like, I think it was ballet dancers or theater dancers

to do like the effect of her

from moving from one body to the other, they hired a bunch of

professional like theater dancers who like who'd know how to use their bodies really well.

And the way they did it was they hired them to like do that chore they choreographed it with them, basically.

So I think that's just a nice little detail that I never would have thought of.

I thought it was just normal everyday extras, but no, they were like

trained theater dancers who know how to like maneuver their bodies in a way.

So I agree.

I agree with that.

That's actually not what I was talking about.

I was actually talking about the visual representation

at the end of the movie where she's using her powers to the full fullest extent.

Oh, like when that dome thing?

That dome thing?

I think that was the best portrayal of her powers

since ever, since the cartoon, I guess.

That's my opinion.

I thought that was was so cool.

I was like, oh, finally, something that I'm familiar with, you know?

My second thing is, and it's a theory,

and you guys can tell me I'm stupid and wrong all you want, but

my theory is that Ned actually

knew all about Spider-Man, didn't

want to fess up and say that he did.

He was keeping a tracker of Spider-Man on purpose

because I feel like they're going to go into

Ned's villain arc in some shape or form.

Does he have a villain now?

arc in the comics?

He doesn't exist in the comics.

Oh.

Oh, really?

No.

I don't.

I mean, there is I think there is a Ned, but he's like they're not like close friends like that.

Does Peter Parker have have a bestie in the comics at all in any of them?

Flash.

Like Flash

He was the worst..

Flash Gorded?

Not Flash Word, but like there was like a dude named, I can't remember his name.

Not the Flash.

Flash.

But his name is his name is Flash, but they

kind of like become rivals in high school.

But the Ned character specifically is a new construct for the movie.

I mean, I believe that he was

in the comics, but they didn't have to play a big role.

Like that character.

I like your theory, Justin.

And then at the end, I like where you're

going with that, Justin, but I don't think so because

At the end at the end when they like.

Peter

Parker introduces himself, and he's just kind of like, he doesn't.

I think he knows

that he was Spider-Man after he,

like, um MJ found out.

But then, when they at the very end of the movie, when they're in there

the bodega, they kind of kind of like

they do the handshake and he's like, wait.

Well, isn't that isn't that what you're talking about, Justin?

Aren't you saying that after that is when you think that Neded like, oh.

I think in my opinion, and my theory

is that Ned has a deeper thing going on, I feel like

something happened in in the

point in time that he was originally a Peter Parker's

friend knowing that he's Spider-Man to not knowing

who Peter Parker is, but knowing that Spider-Man exists.

I think something happened

somewhere that they're not necessarily showing us.

And I feel like they're setting him up to be maybe

potentially like someone that Spider-Man has to face later on.

It's an interesting There's's possibly, though.

I mean, here's the thing.

Like,

at the very end, the UC see the after credits

scene, which is a very, very, like, okay, where's why

is Ned's like spider tracker sending it to outer space?

Oh, yeah.

And you realize that's Peter Parker.

This like this is like, okay, they're in

the battle world now, which is where the Secret world takes place, right?

Superman.

Yeah.

Like Secret Wars.

So like, um there's going to be a

point where once Secret is

done, that it's going to, I don't know what's going to happen

but then I think there's going to be kind of like a real rearranging of

universes in a way where like, the

Avengers are they' going to be like, whatever Avengers they choose,

it's going to be like, say say like the Fantastic Four, they're all going to be all in the same universe.

It's kind of like that, like kind of like cleansing sort of thing.

If you there's a lot of like YouTube videos that

like talk about the comic book version of this and it explains

it and what possibly could happen.

But what happens is like

I think once Secret Wars

is over and they all come back, they there's

like a rearranging and reordering of like

the characters of where they're at in each world.

And there's actually even, they just merge everything into one world.

And so what the incursions do is

like they destroy like different worlds, but then they, what happens

is they just take pieces of the world and they kind of like

like, like mesh them together Yeah.

No, well, I going back to Justin.

So you could be right, Justin.

You could like Ned could become a villain, but it's like a

rearranging of thing theory of what villain, and this is this is just a

you know, I'm throwing a rock into a pond kind of deal,

but I'm thinking Ned

is going to be some version of the hobgoblin.

Oh, really?

Well, saw him in the Here's another

reason why I say this, too, is because,

and it's not to comment on the actor's weight

or anything, but I think he's starting to get that Marvel physique.

Like, he's lost a lot of weight since his first appearance

And he's, I think he's also gotten a little bit more

on the, you know, buffer side too.

I think he's doing his due diligence

to possibly come back ripped at

some point in time because I think he's going to portray the hopgoblin in some shape or form.

I could see.

That's my theory.

I could see it.

And also, going back to what you were saying, I think

the way the camera will sometimes linger on Zendaya's

face early in the movie or even Ned's face a little bit,

had me thinking like, there's something there.

Like they don't know exactly what is there, but there's something there.

There's some connection that they're feeling with this stranger named

Peter Parker, who just suddenly showed up to the house park.

They' not They're not stupid people.

They're like they're they're going to MIT.

Like, they're obviously

like geniuses in some shape or form.

And I wouldn't put it past them to do something with that.

Yeah.

No, I Well, I like your theory.

There's also, like, I don't I don't know, like,

if this correlates at

all, but like, you know, so

Doctor Strange erased their memory of Spider-Man, right?

So in their brains they, but like,

does that include like even our own emotional memoryory?

Like, like our own, like, like, what do you call it via our muscle memory to like

you know, to recognize things,

but like, not really recognize those memories,

but like like we like been like

we feel like we've experienced something before almost like deja vu.

But it's like, it does, it feels so foreign, you know what I mean?

Like something

you know, like, is it real?

Is it like, you know, and so like, I feel like that might

be part of the whole like them that remembering thing.

It's not really in their brain, but it's like muscle memory of some sorts.

If that makes any sense.

Yeah.

Yeah.

We kind of talked about that in a like

memory and what was it the eternal sunshine episode?

Was it that?

Yeah.

But um We did talk about about that, but then like like

smells, you know, smells is like

your strongest memory, then smell unt taste,

and then, you know, those things they bring back memories.

There's a connection in your brain.

The links memory with smell.

So Hobgoblin, I didn't realize, so you didn't pick a him at

random, Justin, because he happens to be a Spider-Man, a rogues

character, right?

From what I'm seeing here.

So, it's funny because he came up under that obscure

list of Marvelsvel characters.

And here he is a as a Spider-Man villain.

More or less the hobgoblin kind of

if I'm I don't remember exactly,

but he kind of follows the Green Gobblins

kind of like path, but it's somebody that's not related to

Harry and What's his name?

Og?

Osborne?

No, I think it's I forget what his name is.

Ozzy.

Yeah.

In one of those pictures, it looked like Ned.

I mean, but I mean, it is a cartoon picture.

I think I think they like like a fan art type of deal.

That's what it was.

Norman Osborne..

Norman Osborne.

And then Harry Harry Osborne is the son of...

Does Harry Osborne ever turn into a villain?

In the T Maguire and

then yeah, Harry Osborne. as a powered villain, though.

I believe so.

I don't know if he's powered, but I think he's just kind of like..

In the third movie, he just uses his dad's equipment because

he just wants a secret revenge because he found out his best friend killed his dad

Yeah, in the comic books, too, he turns into..

But also, Toby Maguire, Spider-Man, he's like, hey,

he was trying to get at the point across saying, I didn't kill your dad.

Your dad killed your dad.

Because that's what happened.

Yeah.

His little flying device like pierced him through the gut and killed him.

Yeah.

Well, there's so much lore surrounding this IP.

I mean, I feel like you could talk about Spider-Man for hours and hours.

I think this is probably Marvel's most popular

It has to be one of Mar popular..

He's like there's Superman.

It's up there.

Yeah.

It's standing with his claim to fame.

And And let's be fair to all of us,

like anybody who's watching this show right

now, none of us are comic..

I've said this before.

None of us are comic experts. all.

We just like, we picked up things here and there.

Especially not Arnold.

He's The last one I saw guys, was Civil War.

You know, that's like, what, like a few years ago?

And quite frankly, I loved reading DC

comics more than Marvel comics.

I loved reading about Batman in.

I loved Watchmen.

I love Batman, exactly.

I picked up these guys a long time ago for my kid.

Oh, you can't see it because of a filter.

Spider-Man

Peter Porker, the spectacular Spiderider ham.

I thought that was a little interesting one.

I also picked up for him, Spider-Man.

Miles, this is is the Miles Morales teaming up with Spider-Man as well.

I don't know if you can see that.

And Gwen Stacy.

And this is for my kid, by the way, he hasn't.

I haven't read them.

I need to.

And then this little old classic Spider-Man Man of Steel.

Superman, excuse me, Man of Steel.

I found this at a used bookstore, so

I need to read these.

And I have read like the Watchman, like I said.

I've read a ton of Batman

graphic novels as well.

So I need to expand my comicorizon.

If you're going to be reading anything DC,

you can find them online, but read anything that's a part

of the new 5 52 universe because they're really well written.

I heard that.

I've heard about that.

Right now the hot DC books right are the absolute

series.

Is it the one with the Absolute universe?

Bat logo?

Well, and here's the thing.

They kind of change everything.

Well, there's a reason for that being that big.

Because he's like, so the

absolute universe kind of twists all these characters around

Batman is not rich.

He's just like an every man..

A poor Batman?

Yeah..

That's interesting.

He's funny is every man, so he's middle class.

Who's funding all his shit?

Does he have like a 4011k?

I have no idea, but like, you should read the books.

It' very, very popular.

They're like, about that.

Batman is they always say, oh, Bruce Wayne is so rich.

Why doesn't he just like pay to fix the city instead of beating up criminals?

Well, there you go.

Now he gives you the reason to like, actually like

see how he can be a hero.

And that's the thing.

I think that like they want to make Batman a lot more.

They want to make Batman relatable.

So, like, itoves

that excuse of like, well, if he's so ritual't that,

you know Now they give you a character that isn't

rich who's still like fighting crime.

And by the way, guys, anyone who's listening to this, if you're in the Cochilla

Valley, if you want to buy a comic, go to Desert Oasis Comics.

Let's give a quick shout out to Sid..

We've actually, in the old show, we recorded an episode with him at his comic shop in Palm Des.

I believe he's shutting down and Well, he's not shutting down.

He's.

He he's doing he's's selling it, but he's trying to find the right buyer.

Okay.

He's He's not in a rush to sell it.

Yeah.

Anybody who wants to buy a comic book store and do it for the right reasons, get up sick.

Sid.

Hit up Sid, if not just for the purpose of buying a comic.

He's a great guy, super nice, super knowledgeable, passionate about.

Half the collection in his store is like his personal collection that he's selling.

And we're talking, what, thousands of comics like that

he has in that middle section of, I don't know how much he's changed since that last time I've been, but

if you're in the desert, go check out Desert Oasis.

Comics at Pal Desert.

And if you have a pull list at the desertert

Oasis Comics, pick up your comic books.

Man, it's not like hoarding comics

and like not buying them.

You're not doing Sid a service.

You're doing him wrong.

Support your local comic bookshop.

That's all I have to say.

Worth it.

Um, all right, gentlemen.

Yeah.

Well, you know, uh, I think that's, uh, you know, an hour 21 is not bad.

So I think, I think that's a good amount of time to wrap it up.

Uh, it's to final thoughts.

And, uh, Alex, I'll start with you tonight.

Um, What are your final thoughts on?

Brand New Day?

I really love Brand New Day

It's probably..

I don't want to say it's my all-time favorite Spider-Man

of all the movies.

I think the third

The third one with Doctor Strange was really good.

I think think that one is

probably the funnest one, like the way that

it was done and the way it shot Sam Raimi directing that.

What was it, Sam Raimi?

Oh, Sam Raimi directed Doctor Strange, the latest Doctor Strange.

Into the Multiverse.

Yeah, Into the Multiverse.

He directed that one.

No Way Home.

No Way Home was like, I think was like a lot of fun.

I'm sure it was inspired by

some of the visuals in, uh, into the multiverse.

But anyways, um, I do think that this

is, um, brand New Day is a great jumping on point

for any Marvel MCU

anybody who's interested in watching the MCU, you don't have to

know too much about like what happened happened other than the fact that like Spider-Man's memory got erased in

No Way Home.

But other than that, like it's it's it's a cool jumping on point.

Like Arnold was able to watch it without having any prior knowledge

of the MCU other than Civil War.

But I think that.

John W.

I actually I actually cried a couple times in this.

It was like a pretty There was a couple of sad parts.

It was emotional.

Same, dude.

It was a very un emotional movie.

I will say like the comedy end of it, it was done well.

Like I always harp on that, that whole, like, sort of like,

you know, MCU comedy.ical Marvel comedy, It wasn't, yeah.

Not just actually comedy.

I think it was done well.

Yeah.

It was done tastefully.

And

you know, the callbacks to like Aunt

May, I was not expecting to see Marissa Tome again.

I was very welcome to see her in the movie once again.

But yeah, I really love this.

I believe I gave it a four and a half

out of five on Letterboxd and

you could find me at Daily Dare on all my socials,

but I also wanted to give a shout out to my older brother.

I wanted to open this on live.

I don't know if he's watching or maybe he'll see it later on.

I could see the look on my face on this video

But he sent me something for my birthday,

which is in a couple days.

And I'm going to open it up to live.

Let's see what it is.

A couple days.

Yeah, let's see.

D and roll, please?

That's what I was trying to find.

Oh, with the...

For some reason, I thought was a 27th today.

Uh, what the?

Oh, I've seen these online.

It's like programmable..

Oh.

What is it?

I don't know what it is.

Come on, I think.

Is that a Game Boy??

It's like those like game things.

Like.

Oh, like the old Tiger electronics

I think this is like a beat machine type of deal.

Oh.

Like, I could make music beats and stuff like that.

Nice.

I'm not sure, though.

Did he say We got something to do on the corners of the street corners of Japan.

Yeah, I don't know.

I could play some music I

be a busker in Japan know.

Is it rechargeable or does it need batteries?

I'm sure it's rechareable.

I'm going to have to look into this.

I have no clue with these.

You play hats.

But apparently, this one isn't Japanese or

like as a.

That's pretty cool.

That's pretty sid.

I don't know what they say.

Oh, and this is the case for it?

It looks like a game calculator widget.

We will find out.

We shall see.

I like your shirt, by the way.

Can you run on it?

Can you run Dr. Doom on it?

I think it's only play Punch out

as for the watch cartoons.

Can you watch the Odyssey on that?

Sorry, that was like sort of like a climactic to the letdown.

I have no clue what these are, but this is why my brother got me.

Remember they That'll be the YouTube.

I don't know.

Let's see.

Maybe it was from because he came from Korea.

Didn't they go to Korea recently?

No, no, no.

This got mailed to me from

I guess the company's called Teenage Engineering.

Oh, I've heard of them.

That's a pretty well-known company.

They make like very niche, like cool electronics.

Yeah.

Happy birthday, Alex.

Happy birthday.

Well, thank you.

Thank you, Donnie.

All brother Donnie.

So, yeah.

Thank you very much, guys.

No, thank you for sharing that with us.

And I want to show, hold on, let me see.

Teening, this is their website.

They make like cool, like, I don't even know how you.

Yeah, yeah, those are they're drum machines, beats.

Oh, okay, yeah.

I have a.

No.

No.

Is it this one?

No, it's not that one.

There's like almost like a pocket stuff.

Yeah.

They do all kinds of like neat, like gadgets.

I think

Oh, what is it?

They have like a really cool MP3 player I've seen.

It's expensive, though.

It's not cheap.

Well, friend of the show, Planet Lunch, I think I've seen him use this

beat machine on one of his.s he's a local DJ.

Oh, that's it right there.

That is.

That's it right there.

A wall of sound in your pocket.

Pocket operators or small utra portable music devices of studio quality sound or flexibility to make music on the go

affordable to everyone compatible. 59 bucks,

that's not bad price for what's a little sound?

That's actually pretty.

That's actually pretty sick.

I' not going to lie.

I'm jealous of that.

I've seen it before before.

Yeah, I've seen that.

Yeah, I've seen these before.

That's the one with the

Except they're super customizable, too, which is It looks very cyberpunk coded, doesn't it?

Yeah, yeah.

I'm excited now.

I was actually, I think I had the

website pulled up on one of my tabs in my

phone and I was like thinking for the longest time to get it.

And I was like, man, it looks a like a lot of fun

There you go.

And well, now I definitely do have something fun to your.

I had one of those, I would make toilet beats.

What is a toilet be?

Plop, plop.

Plop, plops.

Swishes.ot spillage.

Oh, love it.

All right.

Well, thank you for sharing that.

And Justin, let's go to you next.

What are your final thoughts?

I' Brand new Day.

Did Alex finish sharing his funions?

I believe.

Yeah.

Okay.

All right.

Okay.

Yeah.

Well, Spider-Man, brand New Day.

What can I say?

It's a brand new day?

And I have brand new eyes.

It was a fun movie.

I think it definitely rehashed

my love of Marvel, at least what my love of

Marvel used to be when it comes to the cinematic universe.

I am not very keen on the Marvel side of comment books.

So, like Alex said earlier, please forgive me

for my lack of knowledge of anything.

I'm literally just a

guy that is theory-based more than anything.

I like to make, make a kind of, not

necessarily a game, but I like to theorize things

about movies in general.

So

that's just my thing.

I'm also the type of person that likes to guess at which moment

in the movie the movie could potentially end if

a character didn't do the other thing, you know?

So I'm like, that's that's my perspective on things.

But with that in my mind, I think

I was a little hesitant at first about Sadie's Sink being Jean Gray.

When I first, when we were first introduced to Sadie

Sink, being Jean Gray, I was hesitant.

I was like, ooh, hot off of Stranger Things.

And maybe, maybe those actors are, you

know, caught in the crossfire of how poorly that series ended

which is probably what made me be

like, oh, you know, another Stranger Things actor

doing, you know, high-end movies, like like Finn Wolfhard going into Ghostbusters

and other popular IPs

So I was very hesitant at first.

And then I realized where they were going with it.

I realized that they the writing was really well done.

And I think Sadie Sink really handled her own.

And she probably knew that too, going into

such a universe where we have Ultltra

fanboys who are pretty shitty to anyone

and everyone portraying anything and everything.

Especially, especially female characters.

Yeah, especially female characters.

But I think A lot of them delete their social medias when the movies get

big because they just get harassed.

And it's unfortunate because I feel like there

was potential in the past with, I can't name any

of off the top of my head right now, but I know if I were

to see them and point them and someone point them out to me, I'd

be like, okay, they deserved a chance, you know,

and unfortunately, we lost good talent, dude to things like that.

But I think Cyn held her own

She did a wonderful job at portraying a younger version

of Jean Gray, who's coming up, you know, getting familiar with their powers.

I think Tom Holland is fully realized as Peter Parker and Spider-Man.

I think he understands

his fan base.

He understands what not only he wants

out of Spider-Man, but what everybody else wants out of Spider-Man.

I don't think they really missed at any point in this movie.

I had a blast.

I had a lot of fun watching

Spider-Man brand new day.

I think everything, although it wasn't entirely

an extravagant, like thing Thanos style, you know,

kind of battle or anything.

These were definitely more like grounded

street-level battles that, you know, were used to seeing in some

comic books and and some of the earlier movies as well.

And I'm glad that they kind of brought it back to that to show us that

although these characters have superpowers,

they are also, you know, people too.

Other people would say, you know, they're mutants, but, you know, whatever.

I mean, I guess that's also why the war between

human and mutants kind of got started because they don't see

them as people either.

So

I'm glad we got a little bit more of a push into the X-Men side of things.

I love the X-Men.

I want to see more X-Men stuff.

I mean, Deadpool and Wolverine,

um, Old Man Logan, and some of the other previous like

X-Men movies, like they they were good

They were really good.

I don't think it was incorporated enough.

And I think the brand new day is beginning to incorporate

the X-Men into future Marvel projects, which I'm really excited for.

I can't wait to see what they do in the future with the new cast coming up up

Ultimately, fun movie.

I can't say enough about it that isn't positive.

So I'm just going to give it a four out of five.

And in my opinion, it''s my favorite Tom Holland movie, Spider-Man movie.

I mean, I like other Spider-Mans in their own individual ways.

As far as Tom Holland goes.

This has probably been the one that I'm like, I'm like,

okay, this is this is a fully realized Spider-Man to me.

And I appreciate it, this movie for doing that.

Awesome.

Working Oh, yeah, and my socials.

And I was the one that was like, anyway, uh Ghost in Art 88 art page.

Look at my art.

What was this?

on my art.

Four out of five.

Four out of five..

Four out of five.

Ghost and Nd 88 art page.

Find me there.

Shibbs the zombie, Instagram. find me there.

Personal page

And, yeah, that's that's pretty much it, guys.

Nice.

Well, thank you, Justin.

I agree with you on all those points.

This movie just had so much going for it.

And they really stuck the landing.

And they're clearly sending anything.

I

They announced the new X-Men cast recently.

I think it was at D23.

And clearly, I think they're going for these

are going to be the Avengers of the next

big phase starting next year.

Because why else would they make?

And by the way, shout out to Navaretti

who was announced as rogue, I believe.

Yeah.

They're already.

The assholes on online are are already shooting

them for being chosen as as rogue.

People are going to talk shit.

Let them talk to shit.

And they's getting that back.

She's getting that back.

You know what else they were talking shit about?

They were like, oh, Not Variety gave up a chance to be in heat 2.

I was like, look, I love the first heat.

Michael Mann is brilliant.

This one, this new one's going to have Christian Bale from what I've heard and Dio DiCaprio, which is great.

But come on, who's going to give up that Marvel bag?

Like, she hasn't just been, she didn't just magically get the role in Obsession.

Like, she's been acting for a while

Obsession was her breakout hit.

And now that she's a household name, she's going to go for that Marvel bag, man.

You can't blame her for that.

Get that bag, you know?

This is my hot take on this.

I think

I think, you know, congratulations on getting the rogue roll.

Okay.

I think it's deserved.

However, this is my opinion,

man, and I don't know if they're ever going to bring this character to film,

but I think she would be wonderful as like a Jubilee

Who's Jubilee?

maybe.

That's me.

Jubilee.

Jubilee.

She was in like, you remember in the 90s cartoon?

She has fireworks. things like that.

Yeah, she's great.

But she's also Asian, though.

She's also Asian though.

Yeah, I know, I know.

What I, or what franchise was Jubilee in?

She was in Coons.

The cartoon in the 90s cartoon.

Oh, X-Men.

Oh, I don't know Jubilee., that's.

Are you sure?

She was all over that.

Are you sure?

I'm sure.

Look.

Look her up.

You got to know.

She got to know.

She's even one of the main characters in X-Men 97, the new.

Oh, she definitely is, yeah.

Hold on.

Hold.

Hold up.

Who's that?

We know who it is.

You've seen her.

Oh!

I didn't remember her name was Jubilee.

Yeah.

I thought she had a...

Wow, you just unlocked a hole in new memory for me.

You know who did a really cool cosplay of Jubilee at San Diego Comic-Con?

Emiru.

Emiru.

Interesting.

I think I saw pictures of Fur as Jubilee, too.

Yeah, Emiru did an amazing Jubilee.

Nice.

I didn't see that.

Well, there you go.

All right, fellas.

Well, Arnold, it's time for my favorite part of the show, my friend.

I hope you're ready because I'm ready.

It's time for the Arnold snooze ameer.

Yes, sirs, yes, sirs.

And I was carrying.

I was only a popcorn bucket like that at the theaters.

And.

Wow.

It was a zeroZ rating.

ZZ.

But Homeboy to the left of me, there was this

a seat that was open.

But then the one next to that,

he was at the beginning of the movie, he was like scrolling on his phone.

and then like maybe

15, 20 minutes into it, he

just straight up reclined his chair all the way and then he just straight up went to sleep.

His head was like fully down on the arm rest.

And then I kept like looking over and then I. To give him the old, uh.

No.

Oh, man.

No, I kind of, I was like thinking, oh, maybe he

went to the Cheesecake Factory or something because we watched it at the river.

Dude, I

was when I went to go watch Obsession, there was some dude who was on his phone.

Like he came in late into the movie and then he was on his

phone, like looking at his phone and he was ordering his freaking like snacks

And like he like he so he ordered his snacks and

then he left the movie theater to go get him, but he was like,

it was all bright and like, I couldn't focus on the movie.

I was like, manance, you did that that's the number

one issue out of like multiple issues.

But the number one issue for me

is somebody on their fucking phone in the theater.

I was like, come on, you can't spend an hour and a half just to be off

your phone and enjoy and pay attention because there's,

there's absolutely no way anyone is on their phone paying attention to anything happening.

And that's like, that's like a

that gris my gears.

It's the second screen syndrome.

People are bringing that shit from home into the theater.

Yeah.

I was going to say There's no theater etiquette anymore.

It sucks.

But luckily.

uh, I don't know.

There is no, luckily.

This was probably the first time going

to the theaters since the pandemic.

I mean, you know, they were talking a lot about that,

how like, oh, now this summer, people are finally going back to the movies.

I was like, man, I've been going back to the movies ever since I've been winning tickets on the radio.

And it's like, I haven't stopped winning tickets on the radio.

So I've never really stopped.

You know, Air Force One has like a technology where

they can scramble nearby cell phone signals so that you don't get a signal

Movie theaters should consider installing that technology.

I'm serious.

Like, let's scramble, you know, let's let's kill the cell phone signals.

I mean.

People shouldn't be allowed to connect to the theater Wi-Fi,

and there should be no connection to cellular

devices while I' inside a theater.

I think they should have a blockade for that because that shit sucks, man.

It really, because I think people have no

consideration of others, especially me, where I'm sitting here

trying to take this shit seriously, regardless if it's a good or bad movie.

And I'm like, I'm like, God damn it, dude.

Yeah.

Like, why can't I can put my phone

away and not have it out for two to three hours.

Like, why can't you?

They Christmas me off.

They really should hire

They should hire like ushers to

still stay in the theaters and be like, hey, put away your phone.

Put away your phone.

You know what I mean?

Like that's like to like, I get it

that like movie theaters aren't full enough to like warrant that

But like they should have people that kind of come

in check in from time to time and be like, hey,

get off your phone, please as we're watching a movie.

You know, I mean I think if he and snitch

to them, if you go leave the theater and say like, can I talk to your manager and tell them?

And then you go back and you point them out, they'll, they'll do something

Yeah, the problem is that people are just so, I don't know, people would start a fight.

They would disrupt, they would make things worse if they did that.

I'm sure.

Remember the theater fight we got in, Adrian?

I do.

It was a 10.

It was the first 10 movie or the second Ted movies?

It was a midnight premiere of the first Ted movie.

I remember this the last midnight premiere I ever went to was that one.

I will never go to a midnight..

Well, they don't do that anymore, though.

They don't do it anymore anyway.

Good.

So that was the dude on the left of me,

but then my wife was to the right of me.

But then the lady to the right of her,

I don't know, she must have came from Gilroy or something because

my wife, she was like covering her nose.

I didn't realize, but she was like leaning towards me

and like doing that. and she like she was like,

oh my gosh, she I don't know what she did, but she she reeked of garlic.

So there are clowns to the left to being jokers to the right?

left me.

There was somebody from Gilroy.

And I remember when she walked by me,

like to, I don't know, to go to a bathroom or something.

Straight up, I was like, whoa, man, it didn't smell just like garlic.

It actually smelled like meat and garlic.

I was like, whoa.

You're like, I'm getting Comic-Con flashbacks.

They had Korean barbecue.

Yeah.

Oh, man.

Arnold.

So yeah, so you're zero for the snooze.

Oh, yeah.

What's rating rating?

I thoroughly enjoyed it.

It's up there with like, I've seen like the top four,

maybe the top three Spider-Man that I've seen because

there's only three Spider-M that I have ever seen in two Toby McGuire in this one.

But I think this is probably my favorite Tom Holland movie.

It's the only Tom Holland movie, though, you've seen.

No, he's seen Civil War and he was in Civil War.

He was?

Tom Holland was?

At the end.

I know.

That's his introduction.

Yeah.

Wow.

Okay, I got to watch Civil War again.

Or maybe.

I should try watching one of the other Marvel movies.

I knew I was like when we picked this, I was like,

uh, well, one, I just knew it would be good entertainment.

But then two, like there's just so much you know that I missed and like

Arnoldld kind.

As far as Marvel movies go, as of right

now, prior to Doomsday, there

are currently 300 hours worth of Marvel movies to watch.

And shows.

And shows.

Man..

Some of which you probably can skip, but I' most of them.

There's a good portion that you're going to have to watch to, I guess, understand.

Here's my Marvel watch list.

Are you ready?

Iron Man?

seen that, right?

The First Avengers, right?

I think I have.

First Avengers.

Thor Ragnarok.

You't have to watch Thor Ragn.

Thor Ragnarok, uh, then watch Civil War.

Not that.

Black Panther.

Oh, Black Pank Panther.

That's five.

Uh, And then I would say, honestly, at this point,

I would say, watch, then watch Infinity War Endgame or Endgame.

Infinity War?

Which one came first?

Infinity War came first.

Infinity War. more than Endgame.

And then Endgame.

That's seven.

Somewhere in between, watched the first Spider-Man movie.

And that's eight.

So there you go.

That's all you need to do.

That's myt.

The Scott Johansson one?

I mean, No, you don't mean to watch Black Widow.

No.

What about The Black Widow movie is kind of

just like filling in like her origin.

Fantastic Four.

Black Widow segues itself into Thunderbolts

a little bit because there are recurring characters.

Oh, yeah, You know what?

Check out Thunderbolt.

I like Thunderbolts.

Thunderbolts is good.

A lot of people kind of shhat on it.

I thought it was cool.

Oh, Shang-Ci?

Shang-Ci.

Yeah, Shang-Ci.

Oh, Shang-Ci is going to be going to be important.

Really?

Yeah.

Here, you know what?

And it was a good movie.

Let's do this.

On its own merit, it was a good movie.

I did watch the Fantastic Four, the one with Jessica Alba.

Oh, well that's.

It has nothing to do with it.

You're not going to get anything out of it.

But if you want to watch it for Jessica Alba, then you'll get something out of it.

Okay, Arnold.

Are you ready?

Do you see this list?

It's a lot of.

Captain America.

First Steps, Fantastic Four.

Iron Man.

Avengers.

Captain America, Winter Soldier.

Oh, that I've seen.

The first Guardians of the Galaxy.

Oh, I've seen that.

Kite Civil War.

Yeah.

Spider-Man Homecoming That's the first Spider-Man movie.

Oh, with Toby?

No, with Tom Holland.

Oh.

Black Panther

Thor Ragnarok, Infinity War, Endgame.

Those are You can pretty much skip like...

You don't need to see Eternals because I don't even think they're going to make that

part of.

I fell asleep turn.

My smeter score was five or three on that one.

You know, I don't know if Shang-Chi didn't do it for me, but might as well check it out.

But everything else on this list, you can pretty much skip.

I've seen the X-Mens, though, one with Famka Jansen.

Well, but we're not.

We're talking MCU.

We're not talking old X-Men Fox.

We're just talking MCU.

I see.

Deadpool Wolverine.

No, you got to watch Deadpool of Wolve.

That's good.

But that's it.

That's like, what, eight movies out of 38 movies?

37?

Is that?

That lists all of them, right?

This is in the order of the story, not in New Orleans.

Oh, the chronological.

Okay.

Yeah, yeah, that makes sense.

That's like Captain America's first

and then Fantastic Four, and then Kevin Marvel.

I didn't like Captain Marvel.

I thought Captain Marvel was alright.

Yeah.

But I just..

You know, the thing is, that Captain Marvel was

playing played accurately to the comic book.

A lot of people shit on...

That's the thing.

They shit on She-Hulk

That was an accurate comic book translation.

I'm not one. watching that.

I mean...

Not with the, like the twerking was like.

It was okay.

What is this?

I didn't like it.

I just think that

it's not my cup of tea tea, but it was accurate to the comic book.

I think that scene in particular was

probably exploded on the internet a little bit more.

But it was like a singular scene that happened and not even for that long.

But the internet really shit on that scene specifically,

which also made people not want to watch that series in the first place

I think also it had a lot to do with the special effects.

The CG is really bad.

And the problem with it was

the fact that I guess they used

two CG houses to

do the CG for a She-Hulk,

and that's why it looked so bad.

Like there was like inconsistency with

the the show.

Oh, we don't want to get in trouble.

Oh, wait.

Maybe.

What would not get in trouble if you're doing slow motion or something?

Okay.

At this point, Disney, come after me.

You know what?

Anyways, Spider-Man.

No Way Home, Brand new Day.

Arnold, you're going to edit this episode, by the way.

I give it a four out

of five letterbox rating and you can find find me Arnie K I go everywhere.

Thank you for that, Arnold.

You'll see my personal life.

So, yeah, well, thank you for that, Arnold.

All right, guys.

Well, I think we did it.

Oh, yeah.

No, we haven't.

Because last but not least, we got you.

Adrian, is your BAOTZ too big.

Thank you for that.

Yeah,

What have you got?

So I gave this movie four stars on Letterbox.

I really enjoyed it.

I did a little writeup.

I'll read my writeup.

It's short.

I'm trying to keep it short now on Letterbox.

Basically, what I said was, I'll know what I already

talked about, but I'll just kind of reiterate.

This movie made me tearyey, the scene between Peter

and MJ when she confronts him about the letter was so well acted by Holland and Zend

John Berthal is great.

I never knew the Big Brother, Little Brother dynamic between him and Holland could work so well.

Bernthal is great, though I will admit, I' yet to watch any of the Punisher movies or the TV show.

I' need to change that.

Sadie Sink nails it at the last act of the movie felt like a

Jean Grey movie more than a Spider-Man movie, but it was worth it.

Her performances, the tortured Grey was the exact right amount of emotional

And can we talk about that spidey suit?

Possibly the best looking suit in the Holland verse so far.

Using a practical suit over a CGI

monstrosity was a good call.

This was a fun movie and a way more emotional than I had any right to be.

I think my only complaint is that they're clearly sending things up for doomsday

I wish they'd make a more standalone film, but otherwise, it worked for me.

And that's why I gave it four stars out of five on Letterbox.

And of course, you can find me on Letterbox and Boots too big.

You can find the show everywhere else.
